Anyone ever heard/used "EngineQuest" parts?

I just purchased my first dsm. It is a 1997 eagle talon tsi awd. However, it has a "bad engine" which i am in the process of rebuilding.
Anyways, i found out today i need a new crankshaft. I found a couple on ebay and one company is "EngineQuest". I am interested in doing some research about the quality of their products before i buy one. Any information would help.

P.S. no im not replacing it because of "crank walk." And yes it is a 7 bolt 4g63.

About 2 years ago i was looking into buying a crank from these people. Before i purchased it i had a few questions about it, and after waiting 2 months with no reply i went elsewhere. It seems that their customer service was rather bad. It is possible that those cranks might be good, but it is a newly made non oem crank, so i was a little weary about them myself. I would personally just have your crank checked for straightness, and see if it can clean up with .020 or less cut off. There are going to be a few people chime in i'm sure and disagree about cutting the cranks, but the crank will be fine cut as long as it is done right.

^ this. I for one wouldnt cheap out on the one most vital part to the success of your engine build by buying an ebay crankshaft. If something happens to it, youre probably looking at a whole new engine

Alright thank you guys for your imput. Only thing which sucks is i am on a really tight budget, i did however find a 4g63 7 bolt in the junkyard that is running for cheap. Might be picking it up

If anyone is still interested in the engine quest crank for the 7 bolt here is a side by side comparison.

Sweet, good to know/see. Are you going to be using it? I would be interested to hear how everything goes if you are going to be using it.
Thanks

Yup i'm going to use it. It"s at the machine shop now being balanced with the rest of the rotating assembly. i'll keep you posted!

My main concern about that crankshaft is not OEM specs.. i believe they are pretty darn accurate. But.. the material its made from? Idk maybe the material is good and i personally have no experience with them. Guess you can be the test dummy :D

Yup that was my plan. Be the test dummy to see if it is a economical solution for people who need a new crank for stock-ish Hp levels. I plan on running stock other then a 14b for awhile then get ECMlink, injectors, wally 190 or 255, AFPR, MAFT translator, FMIC, Evo III 16g, and maybe some 272 deltas. Hopefully I can get about 350/400AWHP on it without it Grenading.

If i doesn't hold it won't be that big of a deal got a 6 bolt block with a good crank im going to build.

How much was the crank? did it come with bearings?

Are you sure it is a new casting? or a REman OE?

Were the press fit balls in the rod throws removed?

It was 192.50 shipped, didn't come with bearings, New casting not reman, no press fit balls but it has allen head caps where they should be:confused:

Hi All , im a noob... i registered to get some more feed back from Warpath about the Crankshaft.. What do you mean when you said no press fit balls but it has allen head caps where they should be?

Did the crankshaft not work for your build?

On an O.E. crank there are pressed balls in the holes where the oil channels where drilled. They keep the oil in the crank so it can lubricate the bearings. The crank i have is forged, it has allen head plugs, caps, screws or whatever you call them :confused:where the balls are. I'm still using it for the rebuild, the motor is 90% completed. Just need an oil pump, timing belt kit, and a few sensors. I should have an update in a few months. I hope

Oh here's a pic of the crank after balance.

the two yellow dots where the only place that it was balanced, and one spot on the flywheel.

Nice. I thought the Engine Quest Crankshafts came pre balanced and ready for installation, or did you send your components in to be balanced just to make sure everything was in order before installation. I wont be able to balance mines due to lack of technology where i stay, Im just gonna buy it and install it.

Island, Yes the crank would have been factory balanced, But warpath had the tolerance balanced tighter for his build. The factory balance is a bit sloppy.

Also you are in Miami, no machine shops around down there that balance? Well maybe not... I have a customer down there.....

@ Bugus, I actually live in the common wealth of Dominica, Nature island of the Caribbean. population 65,000 english speaking.. not dominican republic with all those sexy spanish chicks,, My country isnt listed so i put Miami Florida,, thas where my freight forwarder is LOl my country has no balance technology and my crankshaft on my evo 4 just got effed up, so i just wanted to get a quick budget worthy crank for my rebuild,, maybe later when more $ becomes available il go all out on my engine maybe even 2.3 stroker.... Thanks for the info as long as its factory balanced thats good enough for me and my Mechanic. Il post pics of the build sometime later this week so you guys can see my Evo and my island.

Respect

Heres a preview of Da Nature Isle.. .Hope you guys like it...

Did you have to remove the allen head plug caps on the crank?? where the balls are on the stock or did you just go ahead with the install?

I've used an EngineQuest crank. I was pretty impressed with it. The only issue was that the forging was a little bigger in one area, and I had to grind a little from the block so it would swing.

I used the first one on a stock build. Just ordered another one for a 400 hp engine. Guess we will find out how good they are.

You got a good deal on it, where did you get it?

You leave them in there. That's what keeps the oil in the crank. But I did remove them and put some red Loctite on them and reinstall. Don't want those coming out!

There was a company called aamidwest on ebay selling them earlier this year for the price i listed. :hellyeah:

I bought my first one from Aamidwest. I emailed them to see if they had any more, but no luck.

I ended up calling Enginequest direct and they located one for me, but it was $284.

Well after 300 mile I've developed a loud knock that goes away when I press the clutch in. Pulling the oil pan tomorrow to see whats up.
