ecu check eng. light 44 ingition coil

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok I took my car to the track the other night for the first time and ran 3 passes. The first pas I just was just warming up and kinda took it easy with a 15.9. the next pass I gave her hell and ran a 15.3 at 94mph The third the same with the about same result but on the ruturn track the check eng. light came on and my data logger says the light is on becouse 44 ingition coil ...The car now runs very week not a jerky feeling like its missing tho.. i read this on a post...

I keep getting a code 44 (ignition problem) from the ECU! Is there a fix?
Search for this topic now!

Here is an excerpt from message #7 of the December 22, 1998 Digest, where Todd Day (the 'talon mgr') summarizes this problem:

" What to do if you get a code 44? Well, it seems that no one on this list (myself included) ever got this code thrown for a legitimate reason, like the coil being blown or the drive transistors being dead. I would start with the connections that go from the ECU to the drive transistors, the connections between the drive transistors and the coils, and finally the "tachometer" feedback link from the transistor unit to the ECU. Lastly, check the ground on the transitors as well as the power lead to the coils.

Oldtimers on this list might remember that this very problem happened to me the morning of the Virginia City Hillclimb a few years back. I tried messing around with a lot of stuff, including wiggling all the coil connections. The problem magically went away and didn't come back until a few days later. I wiggled the connections again and it didn't come back until the next roadtrip I took. Again, after that, it happened on a long roadtrip. I've not since seen it in over four years. I have done nothing special to solve the problem other than wiggling the connections. Guess the last time was the charm."

Fortunately, Darrick Yezak has come up with a more specific answer to the code 44 gremlin. On his 1990 AWD, the wiring harness leading to the power transistor was short enough to actually end up pulling the wires out of the connector. After he extended the wires to eliminate the tension, his code 44 problem went away. He said he had similar success with two different cars. Aaron Litt found a similar problem - the bottom two connections on his '90 pack connector became corroded and caused a code 44 problem. Those plagued with the code 44 will want to check their harness and connector ASAP.

now i am not sure what i should do ..does anyone have any ideas ???
Should i replace the coil pack??

of corse tommarow I am going to try the mentioned ideas in the post I hope they work..i shouldnt have said the other night it was tonight when this happened..and it was against by better judgment since i am still geting my metle on metle gringing noise.

Like they said in the digest the problem isn't usually a bad coil pack but bad wiring.
Measuring the primary and secondary winding resistance on the coils will help eliminate the possibility of a bad coil pack.

Make sure that the connectors are clean and solidly connected along with the grounds.

Reset the ECU and see if the error returns right away or if things have to get hot before they fail.

Whoa...lets be nice. I actually met up with Jason not to long ago and he helped me with my fuel pump and introduced me to the site.

hey is anyone from the lake county/ kenosha county area going up to the real street drags at DA GROVE on the 23rd of september? i plan on going and wanted to know who else goes up there? ill be in a red 2gn with TEAM MOST WANTED decal in the rear view. my buddy has a red cobalt:toobad: ( he thinks he is fast) and my other buddy has a 91 tsi. shout out to who will be going.:dsm:

is anyone planing on going? is it worth the money to attend. i get my car back tonite just got my trans back in.

Id go to watch, not to race, I still have some work to do, my trans is brand new, and finally back in my car, shifts amazing, motor has like 5K on it now and is running strong, I still have a lot of work left to do though, so no racing for me for a while, but im down to meet up for a gathering or whatever, just post when and where and ill be there...Josh lmk when you get your turbo and your ready to put it in, ill give you a hand...

im gonna be cutting it close to that date because the tranny shop replaced my 2600 clutch with a STOCK clutch when my 2600 only had 300 miles or so. so i have to wait another day for them to switch the new stock clutch back to my 2600.

slow99x- is your real name stan? if it is, hey, this is mike, the kid with the 90 gsx

I race/hang out more towards the South kinda...Not super south chicago, but Streets of woodfield (schaumburg) and Strats (elmhurst) and then my friends in that area and shit....

I will be at RSD...I just finished the evoIII swap (shhhh, still a 14b if anyone asks ;)) and am gonna finish tuning, crush my bov, and be looking to go to RSD to do some small $$ races...Probably $20-60 a race, depends on whos out there....

What's up Mike? How's the car comming along? Still slow as shit? Just kidding dude! Haven't seen you guys in a while. My friend called me a couple of weeks ago looking to find out if I knew anything about another Eclipse that looks like mine '### he was looing for a race. I told him to leave your brother alone. No offense but your brother would not have fared too well against my buddy's Talon.

You can buy my turbo setup but I won't give it away. I'm not sure what I want my next setup to be but I know that I have to build the motor before I go to anything bigger. Even if I did give it away I would put it on my dad's car before anything else.
