I'm looking at getting some Rota Attacks in bronze with my tax return $. I've been looking at 17x7.5, but for the 5x114.3 lug size, the only offset is +45. Will this work or will tires be too close into the body? The higher offset number means that the wheels are closer in, and lower offset means that they stick out farther, right?

Also, I just pulled this from VFAQ. Would I be good running a 225/45 on 17x7.5's with a +45 offset?

"17x8 235/45-17 +40mm/+45mm"
"17x7 215/45-17 +40mm"

Yes, those will fit with plenty of room to spare. I had a set of those rota's on my car for a few months last year.

Look at Subydude.com for Rota wheels. They seemed to have really good prices (at least when I was shopping around for wheels they did.)

And like they said, those wheels will definately fit fine. Why not go with 17x8 in a +40? You'd be able to get some more tire in there, and they would also fit fine.

I am worried that someone might see "225/45/17 works fine on a 17x7.5 +45 wheel" and then do a search for the stickiest tires and find the fancy Falkens and then have them rub on the rear knuckle and then come back on here with a (legit) gripe.

Yes, most 225/45/17s work on a 17x7.5 +45, but not all of them. Wret once made a nice picture of treadwidths. Maybe it ought to be dredged up and stickied to avoid issues.

With all that said, I would still argue for +40 for a 2G.

Definately a good point. I think this is the 2nd thread that I heard of this picture, but haven't seen it.

I personally run Falken Azenis Sports 245/45/17 on 17x8" wheels, +35, and they only rub the fenders if I'm REALLY taking a turn, and clear the rear knuckle by about 1mm. I will be switching to some 235/45s after these are toast, only reason I have them Is because they came with the wheels. Do you know if these particular tires are one of the 'fancy Falkens'? :D

I just stickied a link to the suspension FAQ's the tire width research is under "More Wheel and Tire FAQ's." Please don't use it as a spec., and I intentionally left out the actual numbers. Some may have changed since this was posted. The idea was to show how much difference there can be between brands and that supplier specs should be referenced before attempting a close fitment.

Yes, Azenis Sports are some of the wide ones. A 225/45/17 Azenis Sport is almost the same width as a 245/40/17 Kumho MX. And the latter needs a +40 (or lower).

Does Rota even make any wheels in 17x8 with a 40 offset? I found Slipstreams in 17x8.5, 5x114.3, e35, 73hb, Gunmetallic.

I know that the fenders will probably have to be rolled, which I'm allright with. I'm also ok with the tires sticking out a little, as long as it's not obnoxious. I also saw that the hub size is a little big, but I found a place online that sells hub centric rings, so that's cool.

So my new question is, will these fit, and which tires do you reccomend on a 8.5" wheel?

Thanks in advance.

Edit: I just saw this in another thread regarding 17x8.5's with 245 tires. I guess this is the way I'm going unless anyone has any reason not to.

Yes, 245's on +35mm offset will stick out about half an inch and you will have a hard time getting them to tuck. On +40mm offset wheels with moderate lowering and corrected camber it is barely possible to tuck the wheels .

OK, last questions for real. 245/40/17 or 245/45/17 profile? And does anyone have any reccomendations for a good street tire in those sizes? I won't need all-seasons since I have a set of snow tires. It's just gotta be able to drive in the rain.

Most 245/40/17s work on a 17x8.5 +35, but only if you roll the rear fender lips and don't space out the rear upper arms vry much. So you'll be stuck with more static negative rear camber than you may want (assuming the car is lowered).

The car is still on stock suspension for now. After the wheels/tires, the next purchase is going to be a brake upgrade kit, then I'll start on suspension. After that, it'll be back to the engine.

Edit: I don't mind getting the rear fender lips rolled. Depending on where I am when it gets done, I'll do it myself in a garage or get a body shop to do it.

I would switch the order of your suspension and brake upgrades. First get the car handling correctly, including the ride height. Depending on the final ride height, upgrade the brakes. Most of all, depending on how much you lower the car, move some bias to the rear. In other words, the brakes depend more on the suspension than the other way around, so do the suspension first.

Well it looks like I'm going with 17x8.5's +35 offset with 245/45/17's. I'll have to roll my fenders and get hub centric rings with these Rota's. I'm still looking at which tires fit the bill.

Thanks for the advice on the suspension vs. brakes. I hadn't really thought of that. I'm only looking for a mild drop, nothing lowrider or slammed, but I'd like it to be pretty stiff.

Unless you have a ton of torque, I would think twice about 245/45/17s. Most of us move to smaller tires, not larger.
