Car wouldn't start one day, I tapped the starter and it started. Next day the car wouldn't start again, jumped it and it started. Third day, tapped starter, jumped it and no start either. Bought a new starter and it is engaging the flywheel, but won't turn it. Tried jump starting it with my other car and it still won't turn, I left it alone for a while and went back and tried to jump start it again but luck. It did turn the car once but wouldn't start. I don't have a volt meter yet, anything I can do with one at the moment?

dude my car was just like that ALL last year
it made me not give people rides due to fear of
it not starting at some random place
PITA i tell you

alrite 1st check for obvious shortages
2nd.... have your alternator-starter- battery checked!!!!
3 check the wire running to the B+ on the starter and all grounds that may be loose

for me it turned to be a battery and the Vss but i went through 6 starters b4 i could figure it out
had 2 spent the night in the car once and in the morning it started rite up

goodluck

I thought I read on here somewhere that the alternator wouldn't prevent it from starting. I did try a different battery and it still didn't want to turn over. I'm at work tonight but tomorrow I will be getting a volt meter and seeing if the starter is getting enough juice. I will also be double checking the grounds.

I was thinking it could be a relay?

The firewall is sanded, tried 2 different batteries, the starter does not grind, it clicks. It did try to turnover once. Could it be a faulty relay? I'm not very good at electrical stuff.

Edit:

There was a buzzing sound coming from around my dash/glove box area, is that where the relay is located at?

check the leads with a test light if you have to, but it sounds like your problem is no power to the aux wire that runs to the starter. i went the easy route on this and just bypassed the relay by running a jumper wire from pin 1 (black/red) to pin 2 (black/yellow). pin 3 is also black/red and pin 4 is green just for reference, but you don't have to do anything with them.

p.s. relay location is behind the radio. you'll see two little black boxes. one is your ignition relay, one is the relay for power door locks. the relay you want is on the left.

I know it's been a few days, my eclipse is not be DD so I've been helping my friend swap a v6 into his mr2.

Anyway, I took out the starter again and I found this:

Could these broken/worn out leads cause enough voltage drop to the starter, thus making it not start?

Wires replaced! Turning now but still no start. I have fuel, I think it is a spark problem. Wasted my money on a starter! Anyways, so no spark will either be, coil pack, transistor, CAS am I missing anything?

So I took out one of the plugs and hooked it up to the spark plug wire, grounded and saw spark, so I do have spark. Took my battery to autozone as after multiple cranks it died and probably won't hold a charge anymore. More to come tomorrow.

Coil pack, plug wires, plugs, clutch safety, CAS, new wires to the new starter, all checked out within the proper voltage or resistance, also new battery. The starter still just clicks. Tried to jump the relay, still just clicks. Tested continuity from relay to the starter while slightly bending the wire at all places and it checked out. CTS checks out according to ecmlink, no DTC's on link either. I'm just about clueless. Will an aftermarket alarm give me problems? Never had a no start problem like this before.
