It seems every time I fix a problem, theres another problem that comes up. Well I made a U turn and after that while driving at a certain rpm I hear a metalic vibrating noise. It sounds like its coming from under the clutch or under the engine on the drivers side. Like a metal tube is loose. Any ideas?

Really? I notice that it only happens at 1800-2000 rpms and that it. I read in the repair manual that this noise during certain rpms is not the driveshaft. But it doesn't explain what could be the problem, its just says that the driveshaft is not at fault for this noise.

let rule out crank walk shall we. with the engine off, lay on your back infront of the driverside tire. grap the hormonic balencer/ pulley. Push in and pull out on it. If you have a sustantal amount of movement. It's crankwalked.

lets us know

Or maybe just a harmonic balancer that went out...just like the ones on all three of my awd dsm's have. As for your problem, like said earlier, check your heat shield bolts and even check that harmonic balancer just to see if it has seperated on you, if so it may also be rattling around.

Wow thanks guys, I hope its not crankwalk. I'll check the heat shield and the harmonic balancer. Damn all three awd's went out? So i'n guessing this is a common thing? Did it rattle in only certain rpm's like mine does? Thanks for the input.

Here's the update. Took a video of it. Tell me what you think. The sound is coming directly under the shifter.

I didn't check them yet because its dark. I did meet up with my 2g friends tonight and they said it sounds like the bolts on the downpipe are loose. I recently just got my downpipe installed and remember the guy was telling me and showing me a little pipe right up against the dp and he said I should get it re-routed or its going to vibrate and get annoying. I will check it out in the morning and give you guys the update. Thank god I didn't have crank walk.

nevermind that last post... just check the downpipe and check bolts, I had a bad vibration at 4K and it was a part of my cruise control box.. my buddy stripped the hole and didnt tells me so the bolt was vibrating.

Also for everyone claiming crankwalk, crankwalk is far and few compared to what most people think and most peoples cars that "walk" have never been checked for symptoms... like the previous owner on my car claimed it walked and he was selling it, but once measuring the tolerances we found out that the motor had not walked, just blew up.

Now back to the subject of matter.

Had this same problem on my 1g, took the cat out and found that its was broken in pieces causing it to vibrate like crazy, put a new cat on problem gone,

Could be the exhaust against your TC...

Some DP's angle the pipes a lil wierd and push em up into it.

I think mines rattling right now. They are close.

Found the problem. We reved it to 1800 rpms and I looked under the car, the noise is coming from one of the bolts on the downpipe. Tightened it and fix the problem. Now I got to worry about where my boost leak is. Thanks for all the help guys.
