Alright, so my new oil pressure gauge (electrical) came in and I have a few questions before I install it. I'm a pretty big newb when it comes to electronics and wiring, so bear with me . I've read over directions for the install as well as some old threads on here, and I completely understand most of it. My first question is where do I run the power source (not for the backlight) for the gauge? The manual says ignition switch, but I don't know where/how to wire that up.

Second question: I've read numerous times that the autometer sending unit will die FAST if not remotely mounted, due to engine vibrations. Since I don't want to mess with mounting it remotely, is it ok if I just splice into the stock sending unit and use it instead of the autometer one? Will the gauge be less accurate with the stock sending unit?

Any other tips or suggestions would help A LOT! Thanks

Matt

you can get a 12v power source from your cig lighter. As far as i know you can't use your stock sensor it wont read right.

Well I already have my backlight power/ground from both my gauges (boost and oil press) coming from the cig lighter. I don't know if adding a 3rd would be too good. I suppose I could just get up the fuse ampage for the cig lighter to 20 to help?

well i don't know much about the electicle one but dont' splice into the stock gauge sender. That might not be accurate, and its always nice to keep that and have the other one just to make sure. And for the other thing, if you want you could take the powerline through the firewall and put it directly into the fuse box on a remote fuse. It may be ghettoish but it would get the job done? and i have a pic of a place to tap into the oil pan(not really the oil pan just dont' know what to call it) so PM me if you want it. or just look up a little bit on the page i posted it for some other person.

what a lot of people done relaize is that the stero harness has all these wires and more.. and its completly located right under where a lot of us put our gauges in the vents and din plates.

so tap off those. theres a 12v igniton, and a illumination wire.. most of mine are tapped there.. and i have yet to blow a fuse other then when i had a short i fixed.

Well I finished the install this morning, and everything is working great... except for the oil press. gauge only works when my lights are on. I believe this has to do with the fact that we wired the gauge's power source into the cig lighter power wire OMG . Is there another 12v constant power source located near the cig lighter that I could use? An explaination of where exactly it is would help a lot too. Thanks :)
