Ok so I start my car this morning and everything seems fine. Wait a bit then shift into first and go on my way then, I hear loud whining from my car, shift into second, its just as loud. Then I look at my volt gauge and its averaging 13.3 volts. Also, at idle it sounds like a loud ticking/ grinding noise. WTF???

You will need to explain your issue further. As it is, you have not provided near enough information for anyone to begin diagnosing your vehicle's issues.

For starters, is the loud ticking/grinding constant?
Does it stop when depressing the clutch pedal?
How is your oil pressure?
What led you to look at the voltage? Have you recently done electrical work?
Have you or someone else performed any work on the car recently that may have something to do with it?
What area of the engine does the noise seem to be coming from?
Does it hinder the engine's performance?
Are there any other notable symptoms?
Is there a Check Engine Light?

Sounds a little like the tranny, I sure hope not- Good luck tho- wouldnt drive it till you get more info on what it is..

Well I have a check engine light because of my test pipe. I looked at voltage because every now and again I look at my gauges. The whining happens in all gears, and in neutral. I recently did electrical work putting my oil pressure, boost and air/fuel gauge in. The whining stops when depressing the clutch. Oil pressure seems on point and the cars seems to drive ok. The noise under the hood could be my lifter tick but from the driver seat sounded like a light grinding/ ticking.

I am betting on the TOB. Have someone press the clutch in for you while you listen around the engine bay to ensure that the noise is coming from the transmission area.

Then...

Check your throw out bearing and clutch -- you will need to remove the transmission to really check it. While you are in there, I would recommend replacing the rear main seal and clutch components if you have not done so recently. Clutch jobs are not fun to do and are expensive to hire out.

i would also say TOB. also have you checked the fluid level in the tranny? my wifes honda got noisy just before the tranny went out.

definately your Throw out bearing, it usually kind of ticks and rattles until you push the clutch in, and it seems to happen more, and be louder on colder days. If this sounds right then you need an Oem TOB.

Worse case it's your input shaft, you'll just have to see when you take your tranny out.

edit :didnt you say the whining stops when you push in the clutch? Thats tranny noise then, not timing side noise.

My n/a talon had a bad tob and it was not the noise I'm hearing. Its a whining noise.

check your main pulley/harmonic balancer to see if the rubber is seperating in between the pulleys

what do you mean by this? ha

my car is making a grinding noise from the timing area and I cant pinpoint it either.. its at idle, the timing is spot on, and all the stuff is new , a and b belts, 3 pulleys, hydro tensioner and even the bracket the main tensioner pulley mounts to...

completely out of ideas at this point..
