I need help Im looking for an exhaust for my 1st gen AWD and im not sure what one to buy. I want to go with 3 inch and i dont want a cat. also which is better and which should i go with aluminized or stainless steel. whats the difference between the to.

sup. Im the market for a catback/turboback too..

and im assuming that there is no difference between aluminum and ss Performance wise.

but i do think that aluminum wont last as long as the Stainless steel because aluminum will rust.. since you live in illinois too id suggest Stainless steel (snow/salt)

unless you dont take your car out over thw winter then go with aluminum. it will save you a hundred buks.

Yeah, there is no difference performance wise between the two. SS will obviously be more expensive, but it won't rust as well. I chose SS since we get a fair amount of snow and rain here in Va, and VDOT loves salt. If you were to live in Texas or somewhere like it, then aluminum wouldn't be a bad choice as there is no snow and not a lot of rain. Since you're in Illinois, like gsxtreme suggested, SS would be a good choice so you won't have to worry about rusting.

i'd go with the aluminzed, save yourself some money, and wash the salt and etc every once and a while....it's not like you are going to have gaping holes in your exhaust after one or two winters...

i live in minnesota, mndot loves salt even when there isn't snow on the ground, and i would still go with aluminized...if you don't let the stuff sit and allow it to destroy your car i don't see it being a big problem.

Thanks guys. I think im going to go a stainless steel downpipe and a aluminized catback. Would the tip be stainless steel on a aluminized exhaust. Also is there summthing that i can spray to help the aluminized exhaust not rust

Alot of times, you'll find an aluminized catback with a stainless muffler, which means the tips would be stainless also. You really just have to shop around and read the specs on the entire systems, they're all different. As for rust prevention, I can't say that I've used this, but it seems it should do the trick.

Along with this he isn't talk about aluminum exhaust he is talking about aluminIZED exhaust. Aluminum exhaust wouldn't last very long at all.

Like everyone has said the SS will last longer in salty conditions but it will cost more. If you are good about maintenance then I would save the money and go aluminIZED, but SS would be nice.
