rochester,
My alt, bat, coolant, and brake lights went on and i noticed my car was overheating, plus one of my belts was squeeking bad. I took a look under the hood and noticed that my alt belt was badly frayed and damaged. Went to autozone and got a new one and replaced it. No more squeeking and the car no longer overheats at idle, which it was previously doing. I drove the car around the block and it started to overheat, with all those lights on again. I pulled over and temperature went back to normal. I looked under the hood again and noticed that the fans were not on. I also noticed that the headlights and dashlights get noticeably brighter when I give the car gas. Any suggestions fellas? Could it be my alternator or battery? Thanks in advance.

My car was doing the same crap. Do your RPM drop when you turn on the AC at idle? If this happens then its either the battery, alternator diode or the voltage regulator. I fixed my problem when i got a new alternator and a yellow top battery. Do you have a system (subs) in your car. If you do and you run them without caps this can cause this problem to come back. About the voltage regulator... I dont know much about it since i didnt have to mess with it.

Hope this helps.

Fans not coming on can be fans, relay, fuse, Coolant fan switch etc.

Ac dragging down your engine is normal. The isc should compensate for the additional load placed on your engine. If it kills or drags it too low, then likely your isc is going south on you.

Good Luck

No dice, got a new battery, drove around a bit and everything seemed fine, cept dashlights were still complaining. My car didn't overheat either. Then I noticed my headlights getting dimmer and dimmer, by the time I got back home they were almost completely off. I tried to restart it after I got into the garage and nothing. Wouldn't turn over. The battery died. Guess my alternator is the culprit. I will go buy one and try replacing it myself. Is it any much harder than replacing the alt belt? My friend said that if I was able to do that, then taking the whole thing off shouldn't be a problem for me cause after removing the belt im pretty much almost done. He doesn't understand how lazy and incompetent I am though.

Pretty straight forward. Don't get those remanufacture ones from the Big parts places. Make sure to get one from the dealer!:thumb:

There's nothing wrong with a rebuilt alternator, and don't you know that mitsu dealer is called SATAN for a reason?

The dealer ones are rebuilts, TRUST me when I say the ones from the dealer are done better! Autozone was a good time, back and forth about 3 times in 1 year...

Well, changing the alternator fixed it and my car is running fine again.

Problem:
-Alternator light, break light, coolant light went on
-Overheating, fans not turning on
-dim lights, lack of power

Solution
-Replaced alternator belt
-Replaced Battery
-Replaced alternator

Thanks again fellas!
