I put the car back together yesterday and the battery was dead so i finally got it jumped off and drove about 3 miles and the car started running ruff and i noticed the battery light was on with the brake light so i pull into a parking lot and it died. so i had a friend hook me up with an alt. so i put it on in the parking lot and jumped it off and the car started running ruff and it died so i checked the fuses and everything was fine so i jumped it off again but i let it charge from the other car for about 10 mins. i used my turbo timer to watch my volts and it was reading like 8 to 10. so i held it at 3,000 rpms and its finally ran up to 13.5 and the battery and brake light went off. so i go to drive it home and the lights started to dim and the lights came on again so i stop and let it sit and the lights go back off and its holding about 11.8 at the battery. well i made it home and the lights were still off but its holding around 11.8 and i know it should be more than that so i was wondering if maybe i just killed the battery and its not holding a full charge. i am running it without a down pipe because i was going to get one made if that makes any difference. thanks and sorry this was so long.

If you're running open o2 housing you're most likely killing your alternator bro. Put your downpipe on asap, that's a lot of heat especially considering it's close enough to the alt as is from factory.

i don't even have an O2 housing. i switched to a t3/t4 and the down pipe i got doesn't fit so i'm having to take it to a shop and have it refitted. i'm driving it easy but i think the battery is shorting out or something so i'm getting it checked in the morning

Get a 02 and downpipe pronto and hope you haven't damaged your alt., My alternator went haywire. It fried my battery, popped my lights, and screwed my wipers up. I had to replace the battery, alternator and lights.

It's the hot exhaust gases blowing on the alternator, it just melts the plastic coating on the windings in it and shorts it out, even if your going easy, so it won't charge your battery like it should.

I wouldn't drive till I could get all the peices I need. A bad charging system reaks havoc on your computer.:ohdamn::toobad:

alright well thanks guys. i guess i'll chop the down pipe so its at least directing it to the ground til i can get it to the shop.
