All kinds of nasty noises.

Ok. I have been battling this car for almost a year now.
My transmission is making a horrible noise, or i think its from my transmission anyways.

Here is a video Showing the noise the transmission is making, It isnt a great video because it was taken with a cell phone. You can hear the knocking/rattling noise. I am pretty sure i have a wicked exhaust leak but im not sure where it is coming from, I am a noob I appologize.

In this second video it shows my check engine light. When I let my car sit at idle and my check engine light will start flashing, but when i drive it it just goes back to the steady check engine light. I have had the codes ran, they say its a cylinder 3 misfire. I have since changed all the plugs, wires, and coil packs.
I have been told that i need to do a compression test and see if my valves are bad, but i have no clue where to start or what to get.

And last but not least here is a video of the exhaust that i had put on my car about a week ago. I think my exhaust leak may be coming from the shotty 2 piece header that i bought from ebay and had to re drill all the holes that connect to the morot because it would not fit.
I plan on getting another header soon, when I get a little more money.

you can also hear the noise in this video.

Any help you guys can give will be very appreciated. I am sorry if my grammar is incorrect, its not one of my strong points.

Thanks for the help in advance, im getting ready to change my transmission fluid to see if it quites down any.

At first I thought it was the throw out bearing, but it sounds deeper and more inside the trans. Is your tranny fluid topped off? When was the last clutch done? You'll need to get a mechanic's stethoscope (like a doctor has, but with a solid metal piece at the end instead) and listen to the various parts on the transmission to really narrow down where it is at.
Does it make more/less noise with the clutch engaged? Any grinding or anything when shifting?

For a compression test: here's a tutorial (and it's even 420A specific) http://www.dsmtuners.com/forums/articles-420a-specific/258957-compression-test.html

Take out the first spark plug and screw in the hose to the first spark plug seat. Then crank the engine and let it go for three to five revolutions. Take a note of what number you get on the little gauge and repeat for the remaining three cylinders.

Like stated in the tutorial, you're looking for evenness (all four cylinders are similar numbers). Also take note, your numbers will be a bit lower then normal if you're doing the test 'cold'.

This is your run of the mill tester. Hose with a gauge. Search Amazon or Google to find one.

Assuming you mounted everything correctly when you installed the exhaust system, your leak will need to be tracked down using any variety of methods described throughout the internet. It sounds like you already knew this, so I'm not sure what you're asking here.
All I'll ask is: does the sound diminish as it warms up? This could be improperly seated gaskets or pipe joints. This should be pretty easy to find if it didn't leak before. Just go over what you did when you installed the exhaust system.

Good luck :thumb:

after it has warmed up a bit you can tell a differnce in the noise when the clutch is pressed all the way in, im pretty sure the exhaust leak is coming from the header so i will try and track that down.

im about ready to sell mine and just try and get into a turbo car.

Selling the car because it has problems is just silly. A turbo car could potentially come with even more problems. Not to mention a turbo car has even more parts that could not work. You'll just be trading headaches.

Sticking with something until it is fixed is the only way to learn. I was on the verge of selling that blue car in my avatar a number of times because "it was a pain", "it wasn't a turbo, so what's the point", "it'll never be fast", etc. But I stuck with it and learned a lot.
