Lando: this gauge is only a referance for me to know if the car is running good.

I guess today ill try letting it warm up for a while and see if that works.
A logger would better suit your needs.

i do have the pocket logger but i bought the guage first so im just going to use it.

Use it for what? A light show? If you are still running a stock O2 sensor, and a non-modified A/F gauge (or a wideband O2) it is useless.

Why doesn't autometer just stop making it if it's useless? Don't bother with smarta$$ remarks like (bc stupid people keep buying them). I want a real, intelligent answer since it seems to be just a light show.

The part you and the other guy seem to be missing, is that it is useless based on our O2 sensors. The fact that each blinky light represents a range (i.e. 88-92) doesn't help either. Which is it, .88 or .92? Could be the difference in a working motor and a blown motor.

Because people keep buying them.

Well, they do make a more elegant pod-hole filler than a camera lens cap.

I never doubted what you guys were saying. I just wanted the actual reasoning behind it because I see enough posts on here that tell you that they're not accurate, but I just wanted the in-depth explanation. Thank you Defiant.

haha its about 11:47 here... my buddy and i decided to pull the car in and installl my a/f ratio and boost guage.... but where is the firewall i'm running it through?? i see one on the passenger side of the car.. behind the battery where my sub wire gies in but nothing on the driver side.. does this mean i have to run the wires over to the passenger side and through, then backover to the boost vacuum hose t... cuz thats gonna be a b*tch. someone help me out please!!

Get a small drill bit and some silicon the whole around the wires. Make sure you dont drill sometin you not suppoesed to :thumb:

Not to sure on the 1st gens , but i put all my hoses and lines through the boot at the bottom of the steering colum. goodluck

power wire red can tap to any power wire... o2 sensor wire is next to ecu inside car (purple) and the black is ground and we can ground that to a wire.... soo nothing leaves the cabin correct?

Autometer Phantom
got the pod on the pillar, purple wire attached to the O2 sensor wire next to ecu.... now we have power and ground wire... where is the best place to Tap these in?? pictures would eb sweet but just any info is cool....

*smack* for some reason I was thinking mechanical gauge.

For yours, tap the power (Red) into any fused & switched 12v power source - meaning anything that will turn on/off with the car. Ground (Black) can be put on any good engine ground, and the lighting (White?) can be tapped at the same spot the previous diagram showed for power, if you have that wire - not sure if the Phantom series does.

we spliced it on where someone said the o2 sensor wire is... the white clip hanging out behind the ecu... orange and black wire... it wasnt connected to anything....

to cover this again...
I have three wires coming off my gauge.. a black wire (ground correct?) A red wire (Power?) and a purple wire... (02 sensor wire or ecu somewhere?) where does it go... where do the wires have to be connected etc... help me so i can reassemble my car..

Just as long as the boost hose is out of the way. I have4 had mine like that for yeas, no problem yet:|

hey, like said before, run your red wire off the gauge to any fuse that gets power whenever the car comes on, run the black wire off the guage to any good ground, and finally tap the purple wire into the connector you see (the white one) with nothing attached to it, then you should be all set, let me know if you have any more questions,

so i need more specifics i guess...

we hooked up the purple wire to the ecu o2 sensor female... thats all good...

at first we hooked up the black and red to the same ones for the boost guage.. the green and white.. for the lights.. and then a black and white but that is osmehting else not a ground.. then someone said run it off the cig lighter.. so i pull out the cig lighter and the plug on the back of it isnt connected to the grren female in the hole... but the green female is the power for the cig lighter... the wire from that is blue and white.. so we knew blue and white was power.. then down in the hole there is a black wire.. i'm assuming this is the ground correct??? so we took the red off the green/white and put it on the blue/white.. and then the black from thwe gauge to the black ground wire... we turn on the car... nothign... :thumbdown :( so i'm not sure what the deal is.. and also how does this gauge light up? if there is no light wire.. theres only 02, power and ground, as opposed to the boost guage which is vacuum, light, and ground... please help me out with specifics colors etc... pix would be sweet

hey, alrite, hook the power up to a constant Fuse, Then Take the Black wire and ground it to anything w/ a solid metal connection, bolt, frame, engine ground etc.. then just simply run the purple wire to the female connector that has nothing connecting to it. I dont see what problems your getting out of it.

just do this. all you need to do. i just did a a/d guage and i followed the directions and it went just dandy. the wiring for the lighting for the guage can be spliced into the cigarette lighter light. green/yellow is + and black is ground. that way the lighting for the guages will turn on with the other lights in the car, and the guages can be dimmed also.

the wiring for the guage + and ground, use the directions on the link. make sure you crimp the wires good, my ground crimp came undone, and when i started the car, it ran like dog meat, till i took the panel off and checked the wiring and low and behold, ecu ground had come loose. rewired and worked fine. also working on any car at night is a big no no. thats when everything that can go wrong, usually does. especially if youre working under a timeframe like "lets get these guages wired and out by tonight, so it looks pimp when we cruise around". if you were thinking that, its not gonna work till the same time tomorrow.
