air fuel gauge install [Merged 10-8] A/F AF ratio worthless blinky

I just went ahead and installed an Autometer A/F Ratio gauge in my 2g Eclipse. Just had one question. When I turned the car on the gauge worked fine but the back did not light up. I checked and got reading on all the wires and they were all powered and connected. Could this be a problem with the gauge. It is an Autometer Pro Comp Ultralite...I am not familiar with the gauge but I am pretty sure it should be lighting up. Please correct me if I am wrong though. Any thoughts?
 
The autometer A/F guage does not have an actual "backlight". The only thing you will see in the dark is the dancing red, yellow, and green.
 
OK great. I bought it used so I didn't have any instructions to tell me this. At least I know I didn't mess it up. Thanks for the quick responses guys.
 
I hooked up my autometer air/fuel gaug today and ran into a problem. The last light on the rich section is the only oone that will light up. It just stays lit and wont do anything else. Does anyone know what is wrong with it?
 
My brother's honda hatch did the same thing, we checked the grounding of the gauge and it wasnt that good so we properly grounded it and it is working right now. also I would check the o2.

if it read that constant its shot.
it should cycle up/down .. thatst he sign of a heathly o2 sensor.
if its staying at .49 that would be lean as all hell.
 
heh .49 @ WOT that motor is most def gone.... LOL :) 02 sensors dont last to long especially with race fuel.


you wana be around .92-.96

i think most people tune to about .92-.93(thats what mines at) ive setup cars at 9.5 and 9.6 though for people that are turbo happy (like to hear it spool up all the time) you loose maybe 1-3hp not noticable at all but alot safer.
 
that was at idle whn i first started it up. and it did jump around a little but .49 is the one i remembered. so if i drive it around it should start to work?
 
If the one red led on the far right lights up immediately, just wait awhile and drive around. If it still doesnt work check the o2 sensor wire...u might not have tapped into it right....but when i first hooked mine up, the little red one showed up, then after a little while it started to bounce. :dsm:
 
The A/F gauge should sweep at a consistent speed at idle once its warmed up. Make sure you have a good ground or you can try the other connection thats up inside the right front corner of the interior passenger side and connect there with a male connector.
 
Based on your findings of how inaccurate these things can be, please don't be "that guy" that trusts his engine to it.
 
Ran: Its the far right green one that stays lit.
Lando: this gauge is only a referance for me to know if the car is running good.

I guess today ill try letting it warm up for a while and see if that works.
