Air cleaner Mod Question

I removed the snout on the air cleaner and the cloth star shaped piece in the top. Now, can I remove the 2 round barrels next to the MAF? These are what I'm talking about:

no, you can't remove them. if you do, the car won't idle correctly (i tried doing the same thing years ago).
