I'm pretty sure my power steering pressure hose is broken. It leaks oil on both ends (the end connecting to the pump and the one that is connected to the rack) It is very irritating to say the least.

But the real problem is: now that I know that it's broken how do I fix it? the hose is clamped on to a metal tube going to the powersteering pump. do I need to replace that metal tube too? if not, how do I get it off (the clamp is this strange plastic clamp). can I use those simple metal clamps to attach a new one on.

Also, I noticed an OEM replacement pressure hose is like 170 and an autozone one is like 42. why the huge price dif?

anyway. all help you can give would be great. I'm hoping to get it not leaking anything so I can go to the track. whee.

since you all are so helpful, I think I will figure out by myself.

but does anyone have a CAPS diagram of the powersteering system they can post.

You pretty much have to replace the whole hose. You could try clamping it, but I doubt it'll hold long.

The reason there's such a price difference is the fact that they're cheap to make, but the dealer will rape you for every part they can to turn a 1600% profit. Parts stores will settle for a 400% profit.

Oh, and I don't know if the 90 and the 92 are somehow different, but the high pressure PS hose on mine just has banjo bolts on both ends - no strange clamps.

Gosh, is it the 28th already?

That hose is an assembly, the ends are swaged on.

The price difference is typical for aftermarket vs. dealer. Yes, there is a quality difference, and yes the cheap one will last longer than the car.

If any power steering fluid got into your alternator, you'll be needing a new one within the month.

Sorry we don't have a silver platter to put our replies on.

thanks for you're help. . .

I ordered the part and then decided to just f--k the whole power steering thing and I ordered a manual rack from a junkyard. . .

then I found a huge bolt stuck in one of my tires and decided I ought to just order the tires I really wanted, then I thought, AWE. . .I might as well get the wheels I've been wanting. Since, I'll have to reallign everything when I put in the rack, which will cost money. . .I decided, MIGHT AS WELL get the suspension I want. . .and the bushings.

and then I thought, if I'm going to be working on my car. . .might as well get that exhaust mani, boost controller, and boost gauge I've been yearning for.

so, you could say, since you didn't reply so quick, I opted for a much better solution. . .

and then I looked at how much money I used on my visa OMG :barf:
