quebec,
Hey!

I'm slowly starting to consider a new turbo, since mine seems to start to have some shaft play... Anyway I've been looking around for turbo upgrades for my 97 GSX and came up to the AGP RS49...

On their website, they claim to have full boost by 3700-3800 RPM... is that true? 'cause i've seen too many companies claim such kind of things in the past... I'm thinkin maybe it was tested with a fully modified for optimal spoolup car that they got such results, not a car with simply normal supporting mods...

Thanks

I have one and buddy on boards has one too both on 1g cars.I find the spool up fine and have no problems with it.It seems correct and that is full spool at around those rpms so it starts moving you out at much lower rpm.Not exactlys sure where things happen pretty quick with a 50 trim. :)
Now having it come on a bit higher up makes it easier to control the car around town if you winter drive it.You can still get into trouble of course but not quite as easily.

I think you have to decide what you want out of your turbo upgrade.I had a 14 b and this 50 trim is much more powerful of course. Now I can deal with a bit more lag ,slower spool with manual car you can just gear down not a big deal.I think the turbo is very streetable.
And even with it idling along right now on my stock smic of around 10 and it can go that low on my car with its internal gate.. anyway it feels decently fast at that boost level.

I have not tried it at 20 yet but sure it will rock and roll.

Now that being said if you want a street killer and good track times an evo big 16 is probably better. You get lower and quicker spool up and its cheaper to boot.

I was considering ball bearing ones like 3052 but still think they might not be as reliable as conventional non ball bearing turbos. And again the lag and higher spool its not that important in the real world.I would not necessarily want a much bigger turbo though on the street.I think that would get a bit too doggy for me.But on the highway this thing just kicks big butt and takes no prisoners.I can pass most cars like the are standing still with this bad boy.
Its maybe not as wicked off the lights a smaller turbo either but you should catch up and pass most cars pretty quick unless they have some serious hp mods.

Anyway so far I like my RS49 and am looking forward to cranking it up to 20 or so street with my ordered water alco system and planned fmic upgrade.

To give you a nice straight forward answer to your question.

You should see full boost by 3800rpms with a RS49.
