I just finished tearing the t25 from my car and I compared the 2 and found that the turbine housing on my l1r is the same as the t25. If you or someone else could give me a heads up that would be great. I just want to make sure that my turbo is as identical to your prototype as is possible, that way I know what I can expect as performance gains.

Why don't you talk to Ben or Kevin about this if you have concerns? They are very responsive to emails and messages.

Depends on what turbo you are coming from, how prepped your engine is, etc. Yes its a 'bolt on' as in it uses your mitsu manifold, and not a Garrett. Yes you will have to do some tweaking of the water lines depending on what turbo you currently run. In many regards, its much like installing a 16G into a 2G.

I had my turbo in and out 3 times over the course of 10 hours as I made adjustments to the different housings to get all the IC piping and water pipe clearances correct. However, I also have a mish mash of different year parts that caused problems the average guy won't have.

just want to know if anyone has this turbo in a 1g? any comments on installation etc. would be very helpful: im planning on getting an L1R very soon ( i need fuel support first) and would like to understand how big of a job this will be.

thanks in advance,
Ryan

tevenor: currently, i am t-too small and i am ready to upgrade. i am getting my exhaust mani & 02 housing ported soon and the fuel pump is going on at the same time as well, so i think i am just about ready for the turbo.....the only thing is that i dont have an safc of injectors YET, and i dont know if it is safe to get that turbo without it....i am going to talk to road///race (since they are only 20 min away from me) and get their opinion on it....but i would appreciate yours as well! thanks

Buy the support mods first. You are only setting yourself up for possible problems. If you are going to buy an SAFC setup the car with the T25 still on it so you nail the idle and base fuel tuning. Once you have that setup, get the turbo and adjust the fuel trims accordingly. That would be my suggestion. Probably Ty and Mike's as well.

[Edit: I am being someone hipocritical here as I still have the stock sidemount. :D However that is not long for this earth. The difference is that I had all the rest of the mods necessary to tune around the lack of intercooling. Get at least the SAFC and learn to tune the car with that first. It will make the transition so much easier.]

thanks for your help! i think i am going to get the safc first now, and i have a buddy that works at a shop that can hook me up with the safc II so i think that is going to be what i get....thanks for your help!

That was a very well-written review; thanks Tevenor! Your review of the L1R has thrown me off a little, now I want to ditch the 2.5" exhaust and small 16g plans to go with a full 3" turboback with the L1R.... sigh, decisions decisions.... :p;)

This is exactly what I've been looing for, but I've heard that the ball bearing turbos don't get max efficency after 20-22 psi. Is that true? I know this sounds extremely ricey, but I'm looking for anything that can put me in the mid 12's on pump gas at less than 20 psi.

It's either this or the SBR 2g20g, it's all so stressful!

No.

Update:

Just got back from the track. I ran tonight at 20 psi on 93 octane with a small 18" Griffen FMIC. Best time below:

Temp 63 F.
RH. 90
baro n/a

60' - 1.852
330 - 5.410
1/8 - 8.301
MPH - 87.17
1k' - 10.775
1/4 - 12.834
MPH - 111.01

Fastest mph was 111.44 mph. I will be heading back in a little while with race gas and running much higher PSI.

This is from AGP's website on the SS44 (the L1R replacement):

Well, the time has come. For all you autocross, rallycross, and roadcourse enthusiasts, here is your turbo. Our tests have found 22lbs of boost at 3000-3100rpm, but that is not the best part. Transient response is instant. Hammer the throttle, instant boost. This is what you've all been asking for, so we built it.

-44 lb/min compressor
-Wicked Spool for you people that do more than run down the 1/4 mile
-T04B compressor housing (2.75" inlet, 2" outlet)
-Setup for manifold mounted or O2 mounted external wastegate
(internal wastegate optional)

Explain to me where you came up with the "stock mitsubishi 7cm/2 turbine housing,it just looks like the t25 housing because it basically is,just bigger internally"?

He is referring to the pTE turbine housing being used. It is physically similar to the T25 housing on the outside. Different completely on the inside. Here it is.

Funny.

The SS44 does not use a 7cm, it does not use a PTE housing, it uses the ...

Are you running an internal or external wastegate? I'm curious to see how it'd perform with an internal for all us cheap bastards.

Any updates on the "new GT technology turbos" yet. I am interested in the GT37.
