I have a 92 Talon Tsi AWD. Eventually, with supporting mods, I'm looking to get 360-400hp(daily driver, occasional track use). I've looked over the threads and it seems like the big 16g just won't cut it and I'll have to move up one notch. I've also seen that the HRC super 20g is no good. Therefore, I've decided on either the Mitsu 20g(ported with 7cm housing) or the AGP L1R(I liked the 22psi@31-3300rpm). Any recommendations and help concerning this choice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
:D

depends on your bank account. both are good turbo's. a big16g will reach your goals. big 16g's can make 400 hp and break 11's.

I don't know which categories a 20G outperforms an L1R.

Ok you got me there but performance wise is what I'm talking about.

I noticed on a few other threads that the big 16g(originally what I wanted) is only good up to 375hp and that's with incredible tuner know-how and every supporting mod out there. Granted, the 20g and the L1R are a bit more expensive(L1R especially), but I'm willing to save and do this right. Thanks for the replies so far.

no way a 16g can reach over 400hp. i mean, maybe, if EVERYTHING is tuned to a damn tee, and EVERYTHING is perfect and you can find a dyno that is in a freezer. maybe i am wrong, but i doubt it. i would go with the L1R or the L2R...dare i recommend the L3R :)

The L1R has an edge over the TD05H 20g in boost threshold and is far superior in transient response. The durability is not even comparable between the two, the 20g is the 2nd most commonly over spun turbo we see (next to the T25). I cringe every time someone says they have a 20g they need rebuilt. Most of the time it's not even rebuildable, have to throw it away and start from scratch. Plus the L1R is all new with a warranty and dual ball bearing durability.

Yeah I was looking at the 20g's but after this post I think I am going to save up a little and get a L2R.

they're both good turbo's, but it is completely contingent on your budget. if you're looking to go fast for cheap, 20g. if you have an extra couple hundred bucks and are going all out, go AGP L2R. and if you have an extra $75, get the bling bling polished compressor housing :p

I don't get the Michael jackson thing but it has been into the Tens, remember teh 20G is VERY capable and is cmmercial duty. Also our cars ECU likes the spool characteristics of a slower gradual spool to its final spooup as opposed to nothing, nothing, nothing, and THWACK 20PSI, you get (spelling) Tipid Detonation, basically the car sees all this boost all of a sudden and has to retard the hell out of timing. A PMS will fix this problem however but for a SAFC, 20G likey very muchy and easier to tune.

What about a BR Super 20g?

I do believe when you were reading that we were referring to WHP..crank and wheel hp are very different.. about 15% different to be exact :)

a car that is rated at 375hp is likely to have 318whp which is very possible with a Big16G assuming you have all the upgrades and have a decent tune. Now to make 375whp your definitely going to want something larger.

The only unattractive part of the L1R and similar turbos is the pricetag. With the oil feed lines, and your gating option, you could be looking at almost $2000. Thank-you no.. :D Other than that, a turbo that spools about as fast as a T28 that will push low 40's in lbs/minute, who wouldn't want one? :thumb:

L1R - 1300.00
Oil Feed Line - 100.00

If your getting a 20G your going to want to fork out the $$ for an external gate as well so thats not a factor.. So figure you could spend 1400.00 on the L1R or you could spend 1350.00 for the Buschur Racing 20G which is supposedly the best of the 20Gs.
