Ok I've gotten sick of all these dead ends from vendors. I bought a set of Towline pistons for my rebuild just as a cheaper replacement. I got a broken middle ring, and had another ring sent to me. And of course, it's not the right ring. Can I put any brand ring set on these pistons as long as they're all the same rings? I was told last weekend by a local DSM shop that Wiesco rings wouldn't fit, but if they're all pretty similar, why wouldn't they fit? Thanks...

I have a set of ITM rings or NPR (I can't remember which ones) The 2nd ring measures .0578" in thickness which is 1.47mm and stock should be 1.5mm. (.0012" is close enough)

I have a set of Wiseco rings and the 2nd ring measures .0462" which is about 1.17mm which isn't close to the stock measurement! (that's about .013" different and stock side clearance is .0012-.0028")

So my answer is Wiseco rings can't be used on stock replacement pistons.

Someone has to sell single ring sets for stock replacement pistons though...

You are looking for a 1.5mm thick 2nd ring. If mine were .040 over I'd send you one! They have been sitting in a shoe box for years...

I'd just get on ebay and buy a set of npr rings for 25 bucks. You are using a stock replacement piston right? Make sure that you use a ring install tool and you won't break them.

perhaps everyone is just out of stock on .040's. ive been blowing up peoples phones everywhere looking for these as well. i got some "stock" .040 pistons and broke ONE of the 2nd rings while tapping them into the block. i may have an alternative. but perhaps a smarter man can answer... the rings from a chrysler 2.7L are factory sized at 3.386 (a mitsu .040 over). 1.5mm first ring and 1.5mm second ring. 3.00mm oil rings. i dont know if the 2nd ring is beveled tho. the ring thickness varied by .005" although, he was measuring them thru the plastic wrap, over the phone, so i am betting the variance was the plastic. the 85324 set claims "deep oil rings" while the chrysler does not. someone with my predicament might benefit from just snatching the good rings out of the chrysler kit, being as how i cant find the regular .040" anywhere. not to mention i get 6 sets for the same price as the mitsu 4

Damn, I wish I knew that before. But I got ExtremePSI's last set of 0.040 rings today. Was the one I got a replacement out of anyway, so not like they could have sold it to anyone else. Just put them on and got the pistons in, but might have another problem now, not sure... waiting on reply to another post to find out.

I picked up a set of stock replacement rings from parts dinosaur for 57$ shipped last week. Haven't found any other vendor that sells npr rings.
