Well......a buddy of mine just finished installing his evo O2 housing and a throttle body gasket....there is a huge problem now. His car sounds like a honda. THe car builds up noooo boost and idles kinda funny. We did a boost leak test and found a minor leak near the throttle cable, but when pull the cable the leak stops, so we didnt think it could be that.

We also checked all of his spark plugs and they are all working, so we are kinda of stupped to why it's acting like this.

Most people are probably gonna say a vacuum leak, but ive been in his car when he's had a few leaks and it still built up boost, but nothing is happening now.

Please reply and tell me what you think it could be....i'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Did you recheck the O2 housing bolts to the turbo? Maybe that could be it but if not, I'll keep trying to figure something out for ya :thumb: .

did anything odd happen with the exchange of the o2 sensor from each housing? if u unplugged the o2 sensor to get it out of the first o2 housing, make sure it is plugged all the way back in, the connector is a little tricky, i thought i had mine plugged in right and my car idled like hell and drove really weird, turns out it just didnt click properly, once i plugged it in it ran fine.

thx for the input guys, this is the buddy of his, where would the exhaust leak be more then likely? would it have to be close to the turbo ot anywhere? cause its really slow, before i did this i had no gasket between the old o2 housing and it was leaking there but there was no where near this much of a difference.

Start the car and have someone stick some rags in the tailpipe. The exhaust leaks will be very evident when you do this. Feel around the turbo for air. Don't stick the rags in the exhaust when starting the car, only when its running.

An exhaust leak after the turbo will be annoying but not cause it not to boost.Guys run open downpipes for racing.
I had a problem recently with the turbo to exh manifold gasket.I had two problems actually. The factory turbo ring which I thought was a good idea in my 50 trim since it fit into my evo exh manifold split and fell sideways into the turbo exhuaust inlet.Around the same time my copper turbo to exh manifold gasket blew to smithereens. These two things gave me pathetically slow spool and power loss as teh exhuast restriction/leak was pre turbo.

Another possibility is your wastegate is not staying fully closed like it should. This will cause poor boosting.

And lastly the old boost leak thing but a minor minor tb leak shouldn't cause huge boost loss.

I got a super thick looks to be unblowable turbo to exhuast stainless gasket from slow boy racing. It should be the last one I ever have to buy.

I'd bet a nickel that the wastegate door is pinned open somehow. pull the actuator rod off and see if the WG arm swings open and closed freely.

already tried that and then i tried one more thing, i check my mechanical timing, and guess what, its off, and i think i bent some valves also, arent i lucky. it must of jumped timing when it started or something, dunno how

ooo man sorry to hear. Doesn't make much sence though.

well, i lined up the marks and it was off a few teeth, and when i first started the car i heard some loud ticking comming from the lifter area, i have had lifter tick but it was louder, now make me wonder if it was valves. i think some oil got on the belt

Remove the O2 housing and check the flapper. My flapper had broken off. go to the site below, the flapper is welded, and after 100k miles of intense heat it broke off:

Now also would be a good time to port the turbine housing if you can.

also Remove the wg actuator assembly completely from the turbo and check the operation and travel of the actuator. the diaphragm may have failed.

good luck
