I have a 1997 GSX with the stock infinity deck and amplifier. I am keeping the infinity amplifier for now, I took out the stock deck and am trying to install a new one. So, I am wiring a new deck (JVC) into this wiring harness:

Most of it is self-explanatory, connect wires to like wires. However, I am unable to wire it correctly to power up the deck. My question is, in the above picture, there is a blue wire from the harness, and a blue and white striped wire from the rca harness. On the back of the deck there is a single blue and white wire. How do I wire this up correctly so it powers up? Sorry for the stupid question.

Well for the head unit itself to get power, the 12v constant and 12v switched must be wired up along with the ground. This will allow the deck to power up. If you meant what wires to get the amp to power up, then I would just put all three of the blue wires together. The one from the back of the head unit should be the remote wire which will give the amp a low voltage signal to turn on and take the headunit's signal and pass it on, amplified, to the door speakers. If it's the stock one that comes with the car then it will most likely power up from the blue wire on the adapter that goes from the car's wiring harness to the headunit's wires.

If i remember correctly you're right. I think all of my blue wires are wired together and it works fine.:thumb:

Okay, so I hooked the blue harness wire in with the blue and white striped rca wire, then spliced it in with the deck's blue and white wire, and the deck still wont power up. The only thing that happens is I get feedback through the speakers of the car. I tried resetting the deck, still nothing in terms of power to the unit. Yellow, red, and orange wires are all connected to the deck. I am really frustrated/confused. Anyone?

EDIT: the blue wire from the deck hays a flag on it that says This is not the wire for the power supply. Please connect this wire to the remote for the amplifier, equalizer, and/or auto antenna. Wth.

the blue wire from the deck is the remote turn on.your power wires are gunna be yellow and red,im pretty sure yellow is your consant and red is your accessary wire, but it wight be the other way around.and the of course black is your ground,is it a new head unit or used

Brand new just bought. Yellow and red wires are wired up, no issues there and ive got it on a temporary ground while im trying to get it to work. I've been messing with this thing for like 3 hours now and getting nowhere. Brand new JVC KDR520.

if you dont have a good enough ground that could cause it,problly not tho.have you checked the fuse.the remote turn on shouldnt have anything to do with the deck turning on it should just have to do with the amp turning on and haveing music play so the problem should be something to do with your power source

Hmmm, these things are sometimes really finicky. You may want to get a direct power source and ground it somehow to see if it will even power up. Then double and triple check your power connections and even look and see if the pins match up. I know if you don't get the right adapter for your car sometimes the pins won't even go into the right ones. The box for your adapter should mention something about the stock stereo options for your car.

Also if you have a multimeter then I would check the power wires to see if there is any current running through them.

This. Point hocka, one of the wires was doa, replaced it, and the head powers up right away. This head is proving to be a friggin nuisance though, now whenever I plug in my rca leads I get interference, most likely from my amplifier. I took a picture here:

The plug colors don't match up for one, but that doesn't matter because ive tried every conceivable combination. I'm pretty sure the grey-lt grey are for the front and the purple is the sub, but needless to say, they all make an awful interference noise when I plug them in.

The amplifier is the stock infinity one, I know it/the wiring from it is the issue because when i unplug it, the noise stops.

Anyone? Try to not make this install into a weeklong affair, my exhaust and turbo swap took less time than i have invested in this damn radio LOL ROFL

Okay I gave this thing a rest for a few days, I checked and rechecked the ground, it is good. When I go to plug in that amp harness it just starts howling, horrible feedback. Is there any way to bypass the factory amp, I don't even need it right now, im pretty much focusing on the finer aspects of my vehicle and I don't have time/am not interested in a sound-system. Not when I have a living room full of auto parts, my roommates are starting to get pissed! this radio shit needed to be done like 4 days ago but I refuse to take it to some shmuck at best buy. If anyone could help, I would probably go down on them at this point, this thing has been one problem after another.
