OK many of you might think its dumb but I have a lot of parts that I got left over from my wrecked GST and am now installing them in my RS...I now have a 1998 RS and have some questions on wiring

1. I am installing an aftermarket tach I know red goes 12 volt "cigarette lighter" and black is ground and green gets taped into A73 in the ECU and the EL goes to the inverter
* this is where I am lost.. on the tach it has a black plug which is the EL and gets plugged into the inverter, but there are three plugs on the inverter. which one does the inverter plug into and where do the other two go??
* will me wiring it into the cigarette lighter have it light up only when I turn my lights on? If not where is the wire for me to have them only come on when my lights are on.

Next problem I have is where does the purple wire go on an Autometer A/F Ratio...I read to the PCM but I don't know where or what the PCM is

I have been researching this for the past 4 hours so can someone help me out

You dont want to tap the backlight wire to the cigarette lighter power wire, you want to tap it to the cigarette lighter light's power wire, which I believe is a green wire. That will turn the backlight on whenever the headlights are on. The purple wire of the A/f gauge goes to the white/black wire in the upper ECU harness

I found the cigerette lighter "light" and wired the "+" to it then wired the "-" to the black wire that was next to it... THen I grounded it....Now only when I turn on my headlights the battery guage works but if they are off the guage doesnt work at all...And it only lights up with the dimmer switch turned down really low..

what I want to happen is the battery guage to work all the time including when my headlights are off but have it to where the back light only comes on when I turn on my headlights. Can someone explain to me what I have to do??

You need to hook the gauge power to a switched 12v supply, usually a red wire from your cd player harness. Hook the gauge light power to a dimmer/illumination source, usually orange or orange/white wire....and of course, the ground to a ground ;)
Let me know if you have any more problems, or if you still have the factory radio without an aftermarket wiring harness. Good luck, u can do it :thumb:

Sorry but there not helping me out in the 2Gnt section so maybe you can help me out.

I have a factory CD player

ok, on the volt/battery guage, you need to wire the positive wire (red wire) into key on. which means you only want it hot when the key is turned on. i wire all of my stuff into the harness that plugs into the back of the radio. i dont want to go pull my radio out to tell you the wire colors but i will tell you what to do with them. to find out which wires behind the radio are what, go buy a wiring harness for an aftermarket cd player. they are like 15$. pull the radio out and plug this harness onto the plug that was in the back of the radio. on the new harness there will be a red, yellow and black. this is key on, constant, and ground. dont wire anything to this new harness, you are only using this harness to find out which wires are what. wire everything into the factory wiring. behind the plug that goes into the radio. make sure you cut everything a few inches back from the plug.

now wire the red wire from your guages into the corresponding red wire on the aftermarket harness. then whatever wire on your guages makes them light up, wire it into the corresponding wire on the harness for illumination. it will be an orange wire on the aftermarket harness. now the dimmer is orange also, dont mistake it for that. the dimmer will have a black line on it also. the ill. doesnt. after you get that stuff wired in just unplug the aftermarket harness and plug the radio back in and put it all back together. you can use the new harness later when you get an aftermarket radio.

now when you turn the key on all your guages will work. they will not light up until you turn the lights on. hope this helped you out.

edit: also im guessing the purple wire on your a/f guage is the input wire. if it is that need to go to the 02 sensor.
