First of all, Id like to say that Im really not into the big rim with low profile tires look. I dont care much for autocross, just drag racing and straight line traction. I found out about these from a member of this board and he put slicks on them but I plan to use them for everyday.

Im gonna be going with the 15x8 in black with 4" backspacing. Is 4" going to be enough? I think they used to be offered with 4.5" but I couldnt find them for this size. Also, is 5 by 4 1/2 our bolt pattern?

As for tires, there isnt much you can do with that wheel height and width. I was able to find some at tire rack:

Compare Tire Search Results

I really like the yokohama avs es100's. They arent too expensive and the have the treadwear and traction rating of a performance tire. I would like something wider for my FWD but the wider tires are all for taller rims unless you're looking at slicks. Id like to be able to find some pictures of what this tire and rim package look like on a 2gb talon. Also, it lists the tire height to be 24", is this close to stock?

Edit: stock height is 24.9", and the 225/60/15 tire came out to be 25.5" tall. I think I might go with the taller tire.

First off, different strokes for different folks on the style of the rim. Those rims are quite heavy. If you are looking at straight line performance ONLY, you should really look into a tire around 24.5". It is a much better size tire for cars running in your power range/timeslips.

If you want a cost effective and LIGHT wheel, I would look into Rota Wheels. The slipstream and the sub zero models are the lightest they make and are around 11# per wheel in a 15" size, and around 13# for a 16x7" wheel.

If you are looking at the 15" rim, you will want a bolt pattern of 5 x 114.3mm, with a +40mm offset.

Mach III

This site (Mach III) is a reputable store and I have worked with them several times before with excellent results. It is in your best interests to call them before you order something online, to check and make sure that the selected wheel is actually verified for in their inventory, and that there is not a backorder on a wheel.

Good luck,

Well, the aero race wheels do look kinda ugly, sorta like something you'd see on a pickup truck. Anyways, I was trying to figure out what an 8" rim would look like with a 4" backspace. If the stock rim is 6" with a backspacing of 5.5" then the 8" rim would stick out 3.5", right? That would look pretty ghey. The rota wheels look pretty cool but they're 125 a peice and with the cost of tires, total would be around $900 for a rim/tire package. My original plan with the aero race wheels would cost considerably less. Im not really sure what I want to do right now; who knows, I might find a set of rx7 rims in the classifeds and just get those instead. Damn, I wish I could just make up my mind and go with it.

If you end up going with a set of 3rd gen RX-7 wheels (16"x8"), you might need to purchase a thin spacer to clear the rear spindles. The spacer thickness would be a 3mm or 5mm thick spacer.

As for the price of wheels and tires, the Rotas are at the cheapest end of the spectrum with the best overall quality and selection choice with light weights.

And yes, the aero wheels belong on a truck or a circle track car.
