I'm looking for advice on what door popper kit people have had good luck with. My car has electric locks but the piece INSIDE the drivers door is broken and dangling and the car didn't come with a key fob anyways. So I was considering just shaving the handles and installing a good popper that works well in freezing cold weather but won't fly all the way open and smash into nearby objects when I push the button. I would also like to have a manual button in case of a dead battery. Any suggestions would be appreciated. (popper brand, solenoid lbs, best alarm with good remote, tips, tricks, ideas and maybe best place to purchase from) Thank you.

My friend had them on his Celica. He usually ends up climbing through the hatch to get in. They aren't reliable for daily use. And are actually quite annoying to use at all. If the door is shut and something goes wrong, you have to cut the door panel off from the inside to fix anything. Just things to think about. Goodluck.

I've had them on my show trucks and only had a problem once. I just broke the window. Lol. But that's why I said I wanted a manual switch underneath the car or something to pop it open in case something goes wrong such as battery or solenoid failure. I just don't know which brands are better these days since I had my show trucks several years ago. Thanks for the advice though!

My cousin had bagged s10 and when we shaved his door handles we used the regular autoloc kit. The only problem we ever had was his "emergency" buttons would go bad every 4 months or so because he had it in his fender well. when we talked about shaving my 00 eclipse and doing door poppers, we were gonna install a emergency switch in the hatch area, so all you would have to do is open the hatch with your key and push the hidden button.

That would work great, if I didn't forget to take my keys out of the ignition. Lol. My problem was always locking the keys and remote in my mini truck. That's why I'm going to hook up On-Star service in my eclipse if I ever shave the door handles. :banghead:

I would not shave any door handle again or have poppers installed on any vehicle I have. I had a bagged 2000 Ford Ranger and a bagged 02 Chevrolet S10 Xtreme that had these things, and crawling in the back window to open up my door really wasn't fun. Like everything eventually these kits fail, or do not work properly after time. I like driving to be a simple experience. Starting with just opening the door handle itself and onlyhaving to worry about the stress of pulling up on the poorly designed plastic grip to hard, and hearing a crack. Haha

I see its been a while since anyone responded to this but i had mine installed at a local alarm shop. I would have to double check the solenoids used but they work good enough but i dont drive it every day. Instead of an emergency button i had them run 2 wires hidden in the trunk, direct from the solenoid. Hook those up to a fresh 9v battery and it pops the driver door, but i need a key for the trunk so it only helps if the battery dies.
