Accel 8mm Plug Wires, any good? Or is Mag 8.5 the way to go?

I received mine today as well. From just the looks of them they already blow the Magnecors away that I have. They also came with the grease to insulate the boot connectors from arcing, and to keep moisture and dirt away, which is a plus. I already had the grease, but I thought that was pretty thoughtful and nice of Accel to do. I guess Magnecor was to cheap to do that, just like there wires. Thanks guys for recommending the Accels to me!

Just a comment to all of the spark plug wire threads. One sure way to improve the life of the wire and consistant performance of the ignition system in general is to use dielectric gel on both ends of the wire. You can pick it up at Pep Boys or most any auto parts store. It is a conductive gel with the consistancy of vaseline and is used to protect electrical connections from moisture and corrosion. You can use it on bulbs, battery cables, wire connectors, etc. It will keep the connections good and dry for a long time and prevent corrosion and arcing. I have used it for years and it even worked on my VW powered sand rail when I would submerge the engine while crossing rivers. Engine never skipped a beat!

I just ordered a set of red accel's thanks to the reviews on this board. Thanks a lot.

Wow I just put the Accel wires on my car and it's light night and day.. My rough idle is gone, it accelerates MUCH smoother, and my turbo which wouldn't boost past 10 PSI before now hits 16 PSI with no problem. My old wires must have really been crap, cuz now I have a feeling I wasn't getting spark in one of my cylinders.

Woohoo, my turbo previously thought dead is alive and well!

OK... I'm a little stressed here! I go to put my new Accel plug wires on and notice that they are way longer than my Magnecors. I'm thinking JC Whitney sent me the 1g plug wires instead of the 2g wires, after I told the morons that my car was a 2g 97 GS-T several times. The car runs perfectly with them but they are to long. The part number on the side of the box that they came in says 7920R. If one of you 2g or 1g guys could tell me what number is on the side of your box I would greatly appreciate it, so I can get this problem solved. Thanks!!

Speedy,

I've got a second gen and the number on the ACCEL box is 7920B. The wires work great. you know what's kinda of weird though, one wire is way too long?? The guys that work at ACCEL must have trouble with measurements. ha, ha.

Well hell... I guess they are the right ones then. I have 7920R. My #1 cylinder plug wire looks about factory length, but the #2 #3 and #4 cylinder plug wires are about 1 to 2 inches to long. They work great and I love them except for the length. I guess I will just have to get use to the extra length of them. I just hope I don't get any cross-firing from them. Thanks for the info!!

Is the coil pack on the 1g turbo located differently as compared to the 2g turbo? if so, that maybe what the problem is. Any thoughts?

Lol! Yea, I have them too. Keep in mind the Accels are meant to be used on any of the 4g63's and one of the Hyundai engine (the one we share the valve covers with)

Very nice. I got mine off of NOPI due to their fast shipping. Nopi sells a lot of ricer parts but their service is second to none.

Damn, a lot of Accel lovers in this thread! After reading this, I went off and ordered a red set for my 95GSX today. I can't wait to get the Accels and throw away my stock wires.

Well... I guess I'm the odd ball now. I just couldn't handle the extra long length of my Accels anymore, so I'm sending them back an trying out the MSD 8.5mm wires now, and if they are to long I will send them back also. I will keep trying out wires until I get a set that are stock appearing in length. My Magnecors fit very well. Don't get me wrong I loved the Accels and they seemed to work fine for the short time I had them, and the quality was awesome except they were just WAY to long for my taste, therefore making my engine bay look to messy, and not neat. I mean I'm more into speed than show but I do like things to look right also. Thumbs up to you guys that are happy with yours. I wish you the best and thanks for your help. I just wished I could have been happy with them as well.

I just ordered a set off ebay, the guy had yellows for $25(starting bid) and reds at $30 and buy in now was cheaper and e-mailed cause i wanted them fast 5 days but not yellow and he said the red cost more?!?!? Very strange but i waited and got the reds for $30 and when filling out the paypal thing forgot to add $5 for shipping and he never caught it and just got a thing saying he shipped them so for $30 i think i got a good deal :)

I would have sent the extra $5 once i found out but hes one of them big ebay sellers and pissed me off red cost more :(

I just ordered some from summit using the part number provided in this thread.

They should be here on wednesday. :thumb: :talon:

Just so you guys know, if you order the wires from Summit you also get an online code for $20 off your next order. Sweeeeeeeeet! It's on your invoice that comes with the shipment.

Oh yea.. about wire length. My 7920's were the exact same lengths as the factory wires. Maybe the coil pack is positioned closer in 2g's, but for 1g's the length is perfect.

I think my Accels are dying cause I get misfires under load and off idle. Does this sound right to you? They lasted a few yrs though. Man they are long wires, no joke. I'm gonna try Magnecores for awhile.

Accel= Junk

I had them on my turbo RX-7. It was a light show at night. Sparks flying everywhere out ofthe wires. I replaced them with Jacobs wires. Better but still some 4th of july action. I finally went with Magnecor 10mm, Problem solved.

I think Magnecors SUCK! They do not fit snug like a suction cup over the spark plug hole like the Accel's do. They wiggle around to much. I had a set of 8.5mm Magnecors that mis-fired like crazy, and there warranty sucks as well, along with there rediculous price. I switched to the Accels and have had no problems whatsoever, except for them being a little longer in length, and if they start to mis-fire I can send them back and get another set without any hassle un-like Magnecor. Magnecor will try to put the blame on your car.
