AC Question

And yes I used the search function.

My problem is this. I have 98 GS 420a, yes yes I know. But it is so hard to come across turbo'd version here in europe. And suddenly like week ago started like a rattling sound from engine bay. As Im no expert I took it to the workshop. They called today and said that it is AC. It have been broken for the past umm i dont know, like 6 month, and they quoted it for fix like nearly 400 $.

So my question is this, can I tell them to remove it ? will it affect anything else besides AC ? I know that might sound stupid. But when it come to cars, Im total newbie. Thanx.

Yes you can remove it. As to all that needs removed I'm not the man to answer. It will be fine without A/C (not affecting other parts) and you will free up some HP also. It would be cheaper for you to remove it. If anything, just have them suck out the A/C gas.

If your removing the Compressor then you might as well get the lines and the condenser out as well.

However you can get the same effect just by removing the AC belt. That way if you ever decide to fix the A/C, all the parts will be there and in place.
