hey guys, i just timed my gst that i bought from a guy who couldnt time the car after installing a new head because the timing belt broke. i know shes timed perfect and everythings lining up real nice so thats not the problem

right now i have 45psi on cylinder 1 and 0psi on two three and four

my question is could i have mixed up the compression stroke and exhaust stroke? and if i did do that what would i have to do to get it flipped

ive noticed that it takes 3 full rotations to get the oil pump and everything back on the timing marks, should i take the belt off and slowly rotate the crank three rotations ( of course being carefull to not screw up the valves ) and then throw the belt back on???

im just going threw all the possibilites before i actually rip that head off,, want to make sure im doing it for a reason

thanks guys in advance for the advice

Seems to me after installing the new head the p.o. probably tried to start it and it was off time causing bent valves and whatnot. As stated before with those compression numbers you're most likely looking at bad head again :/

Easy fix tho. Either have it repaired or pick up a low mileage unit, while you're in there, new head gasket and ARP's, do a water pump, and you're on your way.

If it were me, I would order some nice valves, springs, new bronze guides, viton stem seals, and have your local machine shop install it. You can even toss in some 3g lifters if your wallet allows it.

ya i figured bent valves,, and the po said new everything in the head so im only going off what he said,, hey probably screwd the head up again after install -- but for the shot in the dark before i rip that head off,, with my original post is the whole 3 rotations and compression stroke thing a good idea? again its probablt bent valves but id like to make 100% sure

thanks guys

Have a machine shop check out the head. You can probably get away with just replacing the bent valves.

Ive seen some people bolt on a perfectly good head, to find out that they bent the valves INSTALLING the head. It can happen. They will bolt the head on, rotate the cams around, then the cam will get hung up on the piston because they put it TDC when bolting the head on. While checking things out, they bent a few valves by hand. It doesnt take much.

Wait a second. I just noticed you have 2 threads, one about a GST and one about a GSX. Do you have 2 cars, or are we discussing a head job and a clutch job on the same car?

I noticed you're from Rochester, too. Im not too far from ya. :thumb:
