? about balance shafts

hey guys,
Well I bought my car from a guy that did some stuff to the engine. Well my timing belt needed replacing and when the mechanic did the job he noticed that the balance shaft belt was missing so he put one on(It was the front one). Well after a couple of months of it driving really nice it started to die when i downshifted. A little while longer there was a knocking sound from the block. The mechanic thinks it is the balance shaft. I talked to the guy I bopught the car from and he removed the rear shaft.

My question is if the bearing is out on the front shaft, would it be alright to cut the belt for right now and take it out later or has there been damage done to the engine. I have allready done a commpression test and it was pretty good across the board.

yeah you dont have to take the front shaft out at all, but make sure you leave the bs belt tentioner on because if you dont you will have a massive oil leak out if it.

Thanks for that... Yeah I left everything on there just cut the belt. It is good to know that it will be alright to finally drive my car again!!!
