Hello again. I am the new proud owner of a bone stock 1996 Eclipse GSX AWD. I purchased the car with a knocking motor. We a friend of mine know a guy that autocrosses Eclipses and Neon SRT4's. He said he can fix my factory motor or he can sell me a 6 or 7 bolt (i think) engine that stronger then the orignal. He said that all i need to do is use my old intake, sensors, exhause manifold, and purchase a new flywheel. Is this true? What else do i need to do this swap to my car? I am keeping it bone stock as a driver. What is this engine out of? He says its older but what years?
Thank you any info would be very helpful

6 bolt swap..
You need to know how to do the swap and what parts you need it involves more than just dropping it inn you need to know how to wire up the 1g cas on the 2g eclipse.
use the search button.
Also the 6bolt comes out of the 1st generation eclipse/talon/laser

it depends on which motor it is. the 6 bolt came in the 90-92.5 1st generation dsm's. there was also a 7 bolt version in the older 92-94 1st gens. the 1st gen 7 bolts were less prone to crankwalk though. either way if the motor is out of a 1st gen the parts list is more complicated. most chose to do whats called a 6 bolt swap because it is less prone to crankwalk and the internals are stronger as well. Mach V Forums - 6 bolt into 2g whatever motor you get i would make sure to know the history of the motor. it seems more and more these days you hear about these great deals on motors that turn out to be junk. make sure you do your homework and good luck. :thumb:

Ok so what would you guys do in my situtation. i am keeping the car stock but i really want it to have a bullet proof bottom half so i never have this happen again. Does anyone make reasonably price short blocks. I have a budget of $1000 to fix the engine. I just want a reliable car for me and my girlfriend to drive around daily.

Im sorry i know this also is a basic question but what type of engine is in my eclipse. I know its a 2.0 turbo but there is a fancy name that is used alot. Im just wondering what is in it?

Yes thank you so much. i will check that website out. Im just trying to get a idea what my options are and see if anyone know and cheats for these cars. Thank you for your paitents with me moderator. :thumb:

My new setup with a 6 bolt swap just cost me 4k for everything a hole new engine built with forged internals good for 700hp. All Manley parts. So that a figure you can deal with when asking around on swaps for a 2G.
