Just wanted to start out with a friendly hello to all, i've been checking out the forums for some time now but never had much input till a few days ago. I just purchased a 1997 GSX and its awesome. It has some minor issues, suspension, bad valve cover seal, etc. But overall it was a great buy.

I wanted to ask for some clairification about the actual torque on the the valve cover itself, i read somewhere between 2-4 lbs/ft but i wanted to double check before i dig into this.

Thanks ahead of time and i look forward to picking some of your guys brains a little more.

erm... well i don't really know , but is that your car in the pic? if so nice ride.

Yes, it is only 2-3 lbs. of torque, mine was cracked when i bought the car , most likely from over-tightening it from the previous owner or shop that did work for them. it was leaking onto my timing belt, a big NO NO, use a torque wrench of course so you truely know how tight it is. :thumb:

It you dont have a torque wrench..Just do it hand tight then one "little" snug. Take your time tho. Those things are becoming hard to find.

Damn right, i was dumb when i got my car and impatient and spent $300 on a new one that had to be overnighted from WI on special order to the dealer while they finished my T-belt and suspension...i feel so stupid now for spending that much $$$

You don't torque them at all. Just snug them down, then go around and snug them again. The inner corners especially are prone to cracking. Don't use a wrench, use a nut driver and don't go gorilla on it.

Thanks for the help guys, i botched up and posed that pic before resizeing it and got my other account banned...Burn. I need to use some high temp silicone on the seal cuz its still leaking like crazy.
