A little question,

Hi I'm new to the forums my name is Isa and I just recently got a 98 gst spyder, wasn't my first choice of eclipse but I got it really cheap. Which makes sense because when I accelerate to 5 grand the car starts to get real loud, vibrate, and loses a lot of power, its smoking white and blue, and freeway driving isn't the funnest it feels like it wants to die sometimes. Any ideas?

If its smoking white and blue your burning oil and coolant. Your headgasket is probably shot. The losing power might also be from a blown headgasket. I would do a compression test and go from there

Yeah that was my first guess, but it completely throws me off that the car gets sooooo loud, it sounds real nasty too, but in low rpm drives smoothly. I'll do the compression test asap and get back to this.

If it gets really loud maybe your headers are a little loose. Might try tighting them up see ### happens

Better yet, do a leak down test rather than a compression test and you will be able to figure out exactly where it's leaking.

Does the car have an aftermarket exhaust on it?

No exhaust, and yeah lack of funds, a buddy of mine is gonna do the compression test tomorrow, and yeah I'll make not to check out the valve cover as well. I've been reading through the forums and these cars really have potential. Sweet.

I would first check all gaskets . Then do a complete tune up , oil , plugs,etc. It wont take,more than 70 to 80 buck. So now you know you have a healthy ride. After that maybe a leak down test and just go from there. Hope it helps

From the research I've done tonight it looks like the main culprit could be the turbo, I'll check it out tomorrow, hopefully throw a catch can on it and do the "monster overflow tank" just for fun, I plan on throwing a front mount on anyways..
