Im in the search for buying a Turbo 2G Eclipse and iv found some GSX's with over 100,000 miles on them for around 7,8,9 thousand. Im selling my current car and plan on getting NO less than 12,000 for it. I was wondering with so many miles on it and if it still runs good, with the money i have left over would i be able to have the engine and tranny reworked with all new aftermarket/OEM parts to avoid any problems? Or do i not have enough money? What could i do to drastically revamp the car put some new life into it with the money i had left over from my previous sale?

Why not just wait until something breaks? Unless you plan on modding the crap out of it, it'll last a while.

Yeah i that was my first plan to mod. the car out buy a 16 or 20G or go Full garret with all the other supporting mods but i didnt want to go and do that and THEN run into a big problem and not have any money left to fix it. If the mechanic says its good to drive should i just not worry about it?

I'm tired of everyone saying don't buy it with alot of miles, or put a 6 bolt in it.. yadda yadda. Maybe its the tuner mentality that they want to be the best and the fastest. Yeah a 7 bolt may crank walk... but figure if it has 100k on it.. why hasn't it already? I bought my GST with 134k miles on it 2 weeks ago. The thing purs(just a little belt noise), never has a problem starting the first time, even in this cold weather lately. It is how the car was taken care of. I bought it from a friend who had it since new and it was never modded. I wouldn't buy a modded GSX with 100k+ miles on it, for the fact that, hey that one might actually break(or not). I think everyone wants to be a 10 second car or whatever maybe thats why they say it. Maybe it's to say, "Yeah, I got a 20g, injectors, FMIC......". I don't know. Of course everyone has opinions.

My car has 164,xxx miles on it or so and on it's last visit to the dealership I've trusted since I got it, they say they can see the crank moving. :) Crankwalk in progress at over 100k. I'm amazed it got this far. Still, other than them physically seeing it move, the car shows none of the usual symptoms.

As for the original question, get as good a car as you can, then go from there. Do all the free/cheap mods and see what you have left and where you've gotten so far.

Well, the car has 139,000 on it and its a 1997 GSX. The Exterior is like perfect and same with the interior except for some minor things. He's asking around 8500 for it OBO. I know once i get it and i find some more things on the INTERIOR wrong with it then i plan on doing a gray/black new interior from stock Eclipse OEM parts. Should i just not worry about the miles now until i get to driving it cause with the money i have i want to start modding ASAP and i dont want to run into any problems that could have been fixed before..
