So Im working on this auto gsx that i picked up from an old friend. Had a blown motor and is 100% stock. While the engine is out getting rebuilt i figured Id go and replace the seals on the trans and Tcase also. All went smooth until i got to the TC out put and noticed this mess. The seal it self did not seam like it was leaking but all those metal shavings had me worried.

from looking at other pictures i noticed there should be a good sized wall on the outside of the seal. This is not the case on mine, its chewed down significantly. I managed to get the seal out without doing more damage than what was there already. but now its nearly impossible to get a new seal in without ripping the outsides of it. Might just give it a shot and put some RTV on the seal before installing it again.

so what would cause this?
