OK I have a 98 TSi awd automatic talon im looking to get. Im going to be trading title for title for my 4 door 2002 focus. Anyway the talon is really nice minus the wing, but it has some issues. Its slow as balls and you have to really get on it to go fast. Even if you slowly try to speed up, after about30% throttle and still not gaining alot of speed, it will down shift and then go. I dont know if something is wrong with tranny or what. Look at all pics and videos. I understand now that you cant build boost just reving. Please help me find out whats wrong with my car. Smoke while driving, you can see in driving video when the camera is out window. The previous owner looks like he just slapped shit on expecting fast and furious.

Pulled charge pipe today and found thick oil in it, and also very little to seriously NO shaft play in turbo. The J-pipe is welded on and half assed, also the thermostat housing is jb welded also. The valve cover gasket leaks oil on fuel rail area after driving it. Plugs and wires look like they need to be replaced now. Car idles and runs fantastic, just way slow and hard to build boost. Please tell me we are not looking at headgasket and rings.

Heres me walk around and reving engine

The Boost should be a bit higher....My friends TSI pushes around 12-15psi with the stock controller, and i wouldnt be suprised judging from the looks of it if there was some boost leak. the motor sounds great to me, like you said though looks like somebody was expecting fast & furious having no idea what they were doing :notgood:

Two signs right off the bat, your bov NEEDS to be recirculated, this will make you run pretty bad between shifts. Second, check for boost leaks, this may not be allowing it to build boost. Third, check your TRANNY fluid!!! It sounds like the shifts are wayyy late and take too long to shift.

I notice your vacuum is low when your are at idle , that means boost/vac leak or bad gauge. Your vac should read about 20 vac at idle. and Yes recirculate your bov unless you get a gm maf and maft. And please do something about that cel, it was driving me crazy of just watching it.

Oh I see I see, Yea that would help a ton. Without the Recirculation it will fall on its face every shift. That Car just sounds too good mechanically to be anything other than a bunch of small boost leaks....

seriously recirculating a bov in my mind wouldn't be that big of a deal on a automatic considering your not letting off the throttle for shifts. Why would you? Still it's not going to effect the performance of the vehicle that bad.

The car runs great owned by a "special" person but wouldn't take much at all to look 10x better.

I would put all my money on boost leak. buy it and do a holset turbo upgrade. be a dsm superstar =)

Everything aside it's a nice car, take it to a garage and check compression change the plugs etc. If you aren't happy don't trade. Goodluck

I have no idea what turbo I have. TDO5H and has the J pipe off the top. Some of the IC couplers are ripped by the clamps, and some are not even clamped too well. This car is FREE to me for trade of my stock focus. I was told the FMIC is WAY TOO BIG for my small ass turbo LOL. I want to upgrade but not crazy because im auto. I was also told 8psi is stock on a 2g automatic

Does everyone think its a good trade? My buddy is telling me to look for decking my head and new gaskets and timing belt, and water pump. Im about to hit 100k

I had to manually let off throttle for it to shift. Last thing I need is my valves slamming against my pistons :notgood:

I agree do a compression test. Reciruclate the bov. Hook up the bost controller under the hood, not in the car. Get rid of that filter on the valve cover and run the hose corectly.

I agree take the filter off the vaqlve cover and put vaccume back to intake pipe. Once you can get the car to your place Ill come buy and do a compression test. As said dont worry about the BOV leave it as is. I have mine vented adn its a 5 speed and it ran fine. But you for sure have boost leaks and I can also help fix them. Your burning oil thats for sure. Where cold be several things. Check/ replace pcv valve, check oil make sure its not chocolate milk. Lack of boost/poweer can be blowen HG also(worst case senario). turbo seals could also be bad. Its not burning a bad ammount of oil so id rule out oil ring. Theres is a tranny shift issue. I dont know automatic trannys well so I wont be alot of help in that.

Tranny cable is stretched. I should have checked the fluid level, but I was trying to make as short but informal video as I could. Your TSi will be running before this comes home. Im sure you will be able to come before I can bring it home. You can follow me to my house just in case

Well Aaron, just let me know when your car is up and running

I will. Im hoping it will be rinning in a few weeks. I just need to pay for the cost of the rebuild so I can get the turbo back. I have everything else I need now I think.

yes, out the exhaust? Its not like full cloudy where you cant see through it, but you can notice it obviously. Thats why I was askign whats wrong. It does seem to build boost under every load, so me and my buddy will do a leak down test on the turbo and pipes

anyone have a hood latch cable laying around? I need it as you can see in my pics. its hanging and stripped
