98 engine on a 95 need help on Cas cam wiring

Ok so I've search and found opposites and I'm stumped but here's the deal

I got a 95 gst and I'm using a 98 gst engine my problem is that the Cas doesn't have a plug But my original harness has the plug for the cam sensor under the cam gear.so I'll try to use the 95 cam plug splice it and put in my 98 conector in it since all the colors match it should work right?

Any input in this I really need help thanks guys!

Just bolt your 95 cam sensor to the 98 head and use the 95 cam gear. It will bolt on to that engine just as it did the old engine. You will also need to use the black round plug to block off the hole where the 97-99 cam sensor was bolted.

You could also wire in a 1g CAS if you don't wanna do as bryan stated. You wont get the misfire CEL because you would still be running the crank sensor. Either way would work but this method you wouldnt have to pull the cam to install the 95 CAS.

He won't have to pull the cam, just remove the 97-99 gear, install the sensor and bolt the 95-96 gear on. It would be just as easy for him to just wire in the 97-99 sensor as it would be to locate a 1g sensor and wire it in.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking about doing 1 do the 1g Cas or 2 put the sensor under the gear Thanks guys

From what i remember you cant put a 95 to 96 cas behind the cam gear if the head is from a 97 to 99.it does not have the bolt holes to mount it.

You remember wrong. Mitsubishi is cheap. That's why they still have the feed from head port that is only used stock on 1gs but they are on 2gs. They also have the holes for 5speed componets in a auto. Etc

Correct, the 97-99 heads definitely have the holes to mount a 95-96 cam sensor.

i just put a 97 head on my 95 and used the stock 95 cam sensor, no problem.

I'm actually in the same boat for this situation. I've been re-assured that they all are fine ways to have it work. I'm curious as to what people have done and found to be the best method.

I just used the 97+ cas , cut the wires to the old 95-96 cut a pigtail off a junk 97 harness. Matched up the wires and plugged it up and it ran fine. I know sometimes the cam isnt threaded for it but my 95 talon had the cam already threaded .

The conversion kit for the 1G CAS correct? i have the entire motor i just need to wire the 97 CAS in. my question is how will my 95 ECU take to this information? ECM Link has the option to say you aren't running a 95-96 CAS correct?

Why not just use the 95 cam angle sensor and cam gear? Some of you are over complicating a very simple thing here. Why make it more complicated than it has to be.

Probably because it wasn't a 2g head.

It's just a pain it being behind the cam gear. If I can get it from behind the cam gear then it just seems like while wiring everything back up why not just do that as well?

I'm just trying to tidy things up and make anything I can just that much easier for me later down the road.
