2G 98 eclipse gs spyder 3 inch Catback before turbo

I recently bought a 3 inch catback N1 style exhaust, hi flow cat, and cold air intake. My old exhaust was all rusted and full of holes, so i bought a new one. I plan on boosting the car, thats why i bought the 3 inch piping (really measures about 2.75). I need to know if i install the new exhaust and cat on the car before the turbo if it will hurt anything. I probably wont have enough to complete the turbo setup for about another year. Ive heard it wont have enough back pressure and etc.

I say you should be fine, granted that there will be much less back pressure, I don't see it hurting anything. Back pressure is really just to help push the piston back down. It probably won't sound very awesome though not having a turbo on there, probably just a big fart. Leave the stock cat on there atleast.

Its shouldnt hurt anything but like the other guy said, it will might sound kind of ricey.

Id def put that highflo cat on for sure... I wont see it making any problems with the engine at all. You will on the other hand lose back pressure and that will hurt your low end torque. It will flat like torqueless .
Will probably hurt your mpg bc your gonna have to give the car more throttle having less torque.

Well goodness . Then just throw the whole shabang on there. The honda kids might try to mess with you though. I would say open headers, but its not a Chevy big block or a 302 .

I doubt the OP's car will lose any low end power. The 4g64 is basically a bored and stroked 4g63 with smaller, higher velocity intake ports. Mated to a low geared transmission, the Spyder GS makes nothing but low end torque. If anything the exhaust will help open up the seriously lacking top end.

I also doubt it will sound "ricey" considering how grumbly they are bone stock. It will sound as good if not better than an NA 4g63.

If you're that worried about it, slap a silencer on your muffler.

silencers work great just saying. I ran one on my rsx and quietened it down really well.

Thanks for all the help, i got it all put on when i finally had some free time. I was worried about how it would sound. But with the silencer in it actually sounds pretty good.

i had my Apexi N1 catback on my galant before i went turbo and it sounded very nice but i left the stock cat for more back pressure but a high flow cant be too different. And yes the 64 makes all torque. I went to the dyno with the galant with 200k on utSRI and the apexi exhaust and made 117 hp and 130 tq. even turbo made a good bit more torque than hp.

I had that same setup on my 420a and with the silencer, the sound wasnt too bad and i didnt feel any power loss at lowend speeds

put everything together with the exhaust, as you say you have a beat up one, might aswell

As far as low end torque goes, i feel no difference!
