What's up everyone. I have a 97 gsx 5 speed and am interested in evoscan and ecuflash. I know I can log with evoscan with 97 ecu and I've searched and read alot of info and it looks like only the 98-99 ecu's are flashable. Alot of the threads were a year or two older but before I start looking for a 98-99 ecu has there been any updates or anybody been able to flash the 97 ecu? I have a 255 fp and 650cc injectors with a 16g waiting to be installed and want to start some tuning when I install them. I don't want to pay for dsmlink right now and would like to use evoscan and ecuflash. If not is there any other options I have with using the 97 ecu besides an safc? Thanks for your help guys.

97 ECU's cannot be flashed. Only the 98-99. Just search "Ceddy" on here and some good info should come up.

unfortunately the there isn’t really much you can do with the 97 ecu. i used a MAFT gen2 in my 96 before i switched to an EVO8 ecu it is basically a MAFT and a SAFC combined. only other real option for the 97 ecu is to have the guys at ECMlink convert it to use with link.

Thanks for the responses. That's what's I figured but I wanted to make sure before I did anything else. My next question is I know dsmlink is bada$$ but evoscan seems pretty good to. I'm trying to decide between evoscan and ecuflash and save a couple hundred bucks or spend the money and get link. I know link is very much worth the money but why not evoscan and flash is there a big difference. Anybody experienced with both I can get link but it will take a couple months. Thanks for the help.

As far as hands on with ecmlink Im not sure but im aware link is a bit more user friendly and theres a TON of support on it with the Link forums if your trying to tune it yourself or w/e. Im sure you will be happy with ecuflash/evoscan tho, it does everything you'll need to get a quality tune plus many features that link has (NLTS/Launch Control/Speed Density etc etc) If for some chance your not happy with it or looking to upgrade, the openport 2.0 that you'll need is extremely easy to sell (very popular setup with evos/stis) and im sure it wouldnt be hard to find a buyer for your flashable ecu.

All and All you wont be disappointed.

i have a little bit of experience with link on a 1G but the basics are the same either way. there is defiantly a lot more direct support with link especially considering the amount of time they have been around. it is very user friendly and i would probably have conceder it if i had not not been on a tight budget. once i purchased it i wouldn't go any other way (except maybe a megasquirt, but that is a totally different story). the EVOscan\ecu flash combination is a very handy tool as well there is a growing number of vehicles that are supported by the new hardware. i haven't actually tried it on my dodge yet but you should be able to log just about any car with it via-OBD2. and if you have any Subi or Evo friends that don't have their cables yet you could become very popular pretty quick. :D while it does have it own dedicated forum (not one i would recommend for asking specific tuning questions on anyway) you can always ask either here or even over in evolutionm.net, might take a little longer but i am sure someone will be able to give you a solid answer.

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm gonna try out evoscan and ecuflash and see how that goes. I appreciate everyones help

Thanks
