97 eclipse sypder with stock infinity radio. Based on several other threads, it seems that my problem of bad/nonexistant fm radio reception is fairly common. I have checked the antenna connections at the radio and at the antenna and they seem okay and firm so I have to assume its the head unit. AM reception is okay. There is also distortion from the speaks even playing the cd changer so I assume I need new speakers as well.

Questions:

(1) it looks like there are two antenna leads from the radio that plug into a single jack for the antenna cable. I read someplace that eclipses have two antennas, one mast and one in the window. Does this apply to spyders? and if so, could the fact that the leads to the rear defroster have fallen off be part of the recpetion problem?

(2) Any recommendations for a good low end cassesste radio (have a cd changer) and speakers? (unde $150).

(3) if I read the other threads correctly it sounds like basic installation of a low end radio will disable the tweeters in the dash -- is this true? I shudder to think of trying to replace them anyway!

thanks much,
ggaarryy

just an update to my questions: My radio says 'diversity' on it so I assume that the rear window of my 97 sypder DOES have a second diversity antenna although I cant see it as the owners manual indicates from the diagram and says it is mounted to the inside of the glass???

If I did have a diversity antenna in the window, would there be a third connector besides the two leads for the defroster (that have fallen off btw)? Or is the diversity antenna cable somehow spliced into one onf the defroster cables?

I am REALLY trying to avoid replacing the head unit since it seems there are no aftermarket units that will control the cd changer.

thanks for the help

An upgrade to an MP3-capable head unit more than makes up for getting rid of the changer.

I don't know if the Spyders had the diversity antenna or not. Don't go by the label on the cassette door.

perhaps, but I am not much of an 'audiophile' -- I just want to be able to tune in traffic news and sports without driving up to the darn transmission tower LOL

Does anyone know about the 'Diversity' antennas on spyders?
