96 gst bouncing on take off

Problem started a while back, thought it was a hub and replaced it, (the hub was bad but didn't fix the problem. What happens is, from a dead stop when I take off I get a lot of bouncing on the front passenger side. I'm lost, I have no clue what it could be now. anyone ever had this problem?

How often does this happen (does it happen at other times during driving like over bumps etc)? If so, it could be a blown strut.

Check your front and rear roll stops (motor mounts) for cracks, torn rubber, missing bolts, etc. I experienced the same symptoms in my Spyder when the rear roll stop's mounting bolt went missing.

Checked them and they were fine and bolts tight. my front struts do seem to be bad, but could that really cause the bouncing? Also, it only does it on a dead stop take off. and only as I'm coming off the clutch during that take off. I was thinking clutch problem but it only does it at takeoff so I don't know. when it does the bouncing sometimes it can be kind of violent. the bouncing actually occurs at the passengers front tire.

Well considering you are getting that bad of wheel hop and haven't destroyed the trans already consider yourself lucky. Seems to me you need to start upgrading your motor mounts and your suspension. To help out in the mean time. Try slipping the transmission a little more and it will help.

That's a good thing I guess, but what's weird is the car is all stock except for a greddy type s bov, and a greddy 3" catback exhaust. so shouldn't the factory suspension and motor mounts suffice? I'm really ticked that I can't figure out what's causing it.

I'm agreeing with wheel hop. Wheel hop can be pretty ferocious on us fwd guys. You have to find the sweet spot with the gas and the clutch, dont just slam on the gas or you'll bounce like crazy. If you ever plan on upgrading your car I've heard an LSD helps with wheel hop, just a thought.

No, its not wheel hope what he is getting, He all ready stated it doesn't speen, He is not using much power when this is happening.

I know what you mean, from a complete stop, you can't even use 1/8 of the throttle because it bounces, you don't use any force to make the bouncing happen.

I have the exact same thing with my stock set up and it comes from the passenger side as well,. Unfortunately I haven't fix it, so I am not sure what it is, I am not 100% but I think its the strut, I do know for fact that my strut is shot, this is the only part that I know is bad, and it really makes sense, which a shot strut will allowed the suspension to bounce up and down like that.

I Just replaced my struts on my modded dsm, I will go head and put the once I took off from it and put it on my stock dsm and see if it fixes the problem, I will swap them this weekend and will post back the results.

If its more of a banging, its your front or rear motor mount. If its bouncing, then its your suspension.

Could be some nasty clutch chatter. Have you replaced the clutch without a new fly wheel or having the old one resurfaced?

I agree 100%, check your lines and master/slave cylinder for leaks
make sure your clutch pedal is properly adjusted
make sure your clutch fork and pivot ball are functioning properly

if all else checks out, it may be time to drop the tranny and check the life of your pressure plate and possibly clutch
sounds like a pressure plate issue IF this is clutch chatter and the rest of the hydraulic system checks out

That's debatable. IMO more sidewall is more likely to cause wheel hop. You have more sidewall flex with a larger profile tire, which if caused to flex or wrinkle enough is going to eventually, at some point, want to "spring" back into shape. Which is when it would cause the wheel to hop. As far as I know, most of us are on 55 series tires or less and that's surely not enough sidewall to get that much "wrinkle" out of. On the other hand, a larger wheel WILL contribute to wheel hop, but that's because of weight, not the tire.

I'm sticking with it most likely being clutch chatter.

I mean honestly to make sure its not mounts, just start off in first, floor it for a sec then just let off, and see if you can feel a bounce. Every car that I have owned with bad mounts did that.

Again, the wheels are not spinning when this bouncing occurs. I'm not getting on the car hard. just a normal pull off the line. slow, and easy. my front drivers side strut is bad but the bouncing occurs on the passenger side front. My only thoughts are left with the clutch having a problem somewhere. Hydraulic fluids in the system seem full. I'm going to try and bleed the clutch to see if it makes a difference. my clutch pedal has never felt as stiff as I think it should feel. my 98rs. had a much stiffer clutch. can anyone confirm the 420a cars taking the same clutch master cylinder as the 96 gst cause if so I've got a brand new one I can throw on it

I'm running a 40 series tire on an 18" wheel. 245/40r18. When I actually do spin I don't have a problem with wheel hop. the tires just spin like normal. its only on the slow takeoffs.

It's clutch chatter (for the 3rd time ). If you've checked your motor mounts and they are good, it's time to start lookin at the clutch.

And bleeding/replacing mc most Likely won't change a darn thing. You most likely need a new clutch and pressure plate, along with a new or at least resurfaced flywheel.

The fact it occurs on slow take offs is why I say it's CLUTCH CHATTER. Bring rpms up and dump the clutch, it probably won't chatter. That typically happens when your taking off normal and slip the clutch out.

I do sometimes have an issue with the clutch pedal staying to the floor. I thought it was crankwalk whenever I investigated but it doesn't happen while I'm turning. it only happens when I run it to a high rpm in a straight line. sound like a pressure plate issue?
