I have a 96 eclipse gs with 156k miles on it. I really want to start racing again(used to a few years ago in my mustang but had to sell it) I am wondering is it worth it to do an engine/drivetrain swap with a 4g63t and the awd drivetrain or should i just sell my gs and buy an eclipse gsx or talon tsi, to do that swap would be a headache and some serious cash, but if its cheaper then buying another car i would rather do that, thanks

Not worth it to out a 90-99 engine in it, but the evo 8 motors swap in...which is a pretty sick swap...but still requires a lot of time and money...

If it were me I would buy a GSX or TSI

good luck

Sell it or keep it as your DD. It's harder to put an Evo8 then it is a 46g3. Go buy a GST or GSX plain and simple. Or spend 4k on a HRC but that's limited to your internals. See where I'm going?

considering the evo8 motor is organized the same way as a 420a (tranmission on right, engine on left) i would assume it would be MUCH easier to put in, then an engine and transmission of the reverse method.

wow......

You would be better off just turbo'ing the 420A or getting a factory turbo'd DSM. Either way, it is going to cost money.

Also, it is near impossible to put any version of a 4g63 into a n/a 2g (420a car)

Do yourself a favor and forget about doing that swap. If you want a turbo car sell yours and buy a factory turbo DSM, it'll be much easier. Or another option is to build the motor you have and turbo it, it is another proven method that can make some good numbers.

Right don't do it. Even though the evo 8 motor is configured the same as the 420a setup, it's still not easier. The same work has to be done and it's not worth it at all.

If you want power turbo your car. It's not as hard as you might think and I promise it's easier than putting a 4g63 in your car. Do some research in the 420a turbo conversion forums and you'll learn alot.

ok after talking to somebody who actually did the swap you are all right, its not worth it, i really want awd, i can't stand fwd, no offense to gst owners, thats the whole reason i was even considereing the 4g63(convert to awd at the same time of swap) but to do this i found you need a whole @$$load of cash and welding skills. so i am just going to go out and try to find a stock gsx or a tsi. i would prefer a gsx though thanks for the input
