96 Front Bumper customization?

I have a 96 Eclipse, and im not a huge fan of the bumpers. I am probably going to do the 97-99 conversion on the bumpers when i get some more money, but until then my friend gave me the idea to cut out the center plastic rail thing in the "smiley" part of the bumper. I was hoping to get some feedback from people on if this is a good idea or not, and if someone else has done it if they could upload a pic?

You could always get a lip for it, like this.

im doing the same thing except im going to the 97-99 front and rear bumper. i just put the rear on the other day. now waiting to find me a front one as well.
