Okay, I've read about the get big rods, and the 95 pistons. But, that is about all I can find.

Why are the 95' pistons better???

What engines had the "big"(better) rods???

Are all 1st Gen 7 bolts still japan made? (not subject to the crankwalk scare)

Thanks for the help. Sorry if I didn't do a good enough job searching. I had alot of trouble trying to work around the search engine rules...

The rods changed when the 6 bolt was replaced with the 7, the 6 bolt rods are known as the "big" rods. Because the wrist pin diameter changed at the same time, the 95 (7 bolt) pistons won't fit on 6 bolt rods.

So with 1G pistons the "big" rods will work with either style engine?

Also, what got bigger? Or are they just heftier in general...

The actual "big" rod itself is thicker in the middle which helps it support more power. The 95' pistons have a little bit higher compression than the 6 bolt motors and earlier 7 bolt motors(7.8:1 versus 8.5:1). The "big" rod was made between 89 and mid 92 on both the turbo and non turbo motors. Later, Keith.

Very good info! It's always nice to get real numbers to put everything into perspective. hundred thou would make for a much stouter rod. I thought it would be a marginial difference at best, now I see why people take notice.

Thanks again for the info guys.
