Wow.. looks like someone just sprayed a crap-load of flat black primer all over the inside of the engine bay.

First of all, once you get the engine out check the crank for end play. If its got excessive play (crankwalk) might as well junk it.

If not then just rebuild the bottom end. Then once you get the car back together, either put an inline filter in a vacuum line off the side of the valve cover and route the line where it can drain and not get a mess all over the inside of the engine bay, or get a real catch can setup.

2nd recirc the BOV.

3rd get some heatshields or header wrap to save your hood's paint and driver's side radiator fan.

i think you got a GREAT deal. I paid 1100 for my 97 with a bad rod bearing. And mine had faded paint and ripped leather. LOL. Good job.
Definitely just rebuild the 7bolt unless you find a 6bolt for cheap. Dont be scared by crankwalk. Just have the machinist use good quality bearings, forged internals(since your in there anyway) and rebuild the head and use a mls gasket. Should be a good engine capable of all you can throw at it. Oh and arp studs where they matter of course.

Yeah, the previous owner sprayed some liner crap or something im not too sure. But I was planning on getting forged internals and boring .20 over. I already have a machine shop that's doing work for my cummins.

And yeah I plan on recir. the bov. The prev owner said it was tuned but ive never heard it run so I figured ill just do the whole rebuild myself. Thanks for the info guys.

once you rebuild the motor are you going to keep everything mainly stock? or are you going to get a bigger turbo or other mods?
