I'm having Jeff from DSMChips burn me a custom EPROM and send me a 95 ECU as a complete package.

He mentioned that on my 98, I'd have to switch plug wire 1 with 2 and 3 with 4.

For those of you who have done this, is it a matter of simply changing them on the coil? Also, looking from left to right (right being the timing belt cover location) which order are the plugs in for standard operation.

Thanks in advance.

I believe you are right, the spark plug order is switched, flip 1 and 2 and then 3 and 4, but i don't think you need to change it on the coil.

By what you're saying I'm guessing that we should simply change the wires on the plugs and leave the wires on the coil alone.
That sounds fine, but from left to right what's the plug order on a 97-99 4G63? If we know that, we should be in good shape.

When no one answers, just find out for yourself:

The wires on the coil are swapped (1 to 2 and 3 to 4) because the wires don't reach if you try to do it at the plugs. Also #1 cylinder is next to the timing belt.

That takes care of that.

Well good luck.

Not only is the fire order different, the cas is 90 degrees off.

I put a 99 ecu in my 95, switched the firing order, and the car drove. That's about the best I can put it. Picture a car from a cartoon (putt putt), that's how it drove.

The wires on the CAS need to be inverted if I remember correctly.

What's so special in this chip that you're getting that you're dropping hundreds and adding potential problems? If you were adding DSMLink, then I'd understand.

CAS inversion is enabled in the chip. As to why I'm buying it, it's a step up from stock and eliminates some hassles I've had and will serve as a precursor to DSMLink should I ever decide to go that route.

97-99 CAS' readings are offset 90* from a 95-96, the chip Id imagine should take care of the internal problems, but as you mentioned 1&4 will have to be swapped with 2&3, it is your call as to where you want to swap them from. I find it easier to just swap them at the coil pack. Just take the two wires from the left coil pack and swap them with the two wires on the right coil pack. It's a wasted spark system, theres only 2 ways to do it, and only one way will work, cant really screw it up. :)

Thanks for confirming my research Chris. I'll just swap them on the coil. When I do upgrade to bigger injectors and more boost, then we'll talk about DSMLink.

Thanks!
