I have a chance to get a 95 eclipse gst for a very good price. About 2,500. Its got 140k on body about 80k on new engine. There is a lot of mods on it such as rims, bodykit, BOV, suspension. Now this car is owned by my friend who bought it and has never drove it. He to to replace the head gasket which he did but cant get the timing belt back on. He doesn't know what he is doing and doesn't have the right tools but would be a easy but timely fix for me. Now this car is probably worth a lot more then 2,500. I have seen it in person and its in near perfect shape and is from the south. I really think I need to do this cause when I get it I will fix it then re sell it for a lot more..

I currently have a 97 pgt. Its only got 111k on it and is in pretty good condition. I really like it but it needs some work but it a lot more reliable then the eclipse.

Ok he just gave me an offer... My probe for the eclipse straight up... or 2500..

Guys I think this is a very good investment and I could in the long run end up with a lot more money... I need some of your opinions on this thanks guys!!

Here are some pics for you guys....

Well I'm not a fan of the body kit or the spoiler but for that price, how can you lose? I know you may be partial to the probe since you own one but they just don't compare as far as performance, styling etc. If you do the normal maintenance an Eclipse is a very reliable car, I haven't had a single issue with mine so far for the past 3 years. As long as everythings what it seems, I wouldn't think twice.

I have the though of getting it fixing then re selling. I love the probe but it needs its work also. But the eclipse is alot faster and might be a fun car. But I am in New York and Yew York weather isn't friendly to body kits.

Ive lived in NY with a 1994 Talon TSi FWD and I switched from a 1.8L Laser. Along with the weather not liking a high powered front wheel driver in the winter, also prepare to get buttraped by your insurance company (unless you dont have that to worry about). I paid $595.00 per month to own my Talon with a semi-clean record in Middletown NY.

If you have another car to drive, maybe. At the moment you believe that the only problem is the timing belt. However, I would bet that more is wrong with it, you never know until you start working on it.

No there is nothing wrong with the car. It just has to be put back together. It was in good condition I guess they just did the head gasket before it blew. Not really sure but it was running fine before they started.

I traded a 93 civc hatch for my 98 gst . Dont regret it one bit. I got power everything a lots more power stock, let alone torque (haha). With this car I'm learning how to do so many upgrades my self I love it. Lots of bolt on parts for these cars I didn't think of when I had my honda. I believe these cars are more reliable than any Ford.

You also said the car is from the south. Have you considered the travel time and money for goinig down there to pick it up, (drive back or tow-how far from your house).

Its only about 15 min from my house. The car was originally from the south. So that means no winters no rust.

Not a fan of the body kit and wing but it could have alot of potential. I would definitely check that car over because there could be alot more wrong. But if thats all you have to replace than thats a good deal.:dsm:

WTF Holy crap!! What insurance co. do you have if you don't mind me asking? I've got basic coverage on my talon and it's $1500 for the year, soon to be $1385 total for my talon and mustang with the new company I'm going to. And on top of that my record isn't very stellar. Do you have full coverage with no deductable or something? Because it sounds like they're hammering you in the a$$! If you do basic liability you should pay almost exactly the same whether you drive a Pinto or Viper. I've had about 20 cars ranging from a 85 Prelude POS daily to a modded out 98 Z28 and all were nearly the EXACT same price...actually the Camaro was even cheaper than the Honda...it had airbagsROFL

And to the thread starter, definately go with the GST! As long as what you mentioned is all it needs then it sounds like a good trade or a very fair price depending on which way you go. Just make sure there's no rust, because some southern cars are almost as bad as cars in the Northeast. Even though they don't have the winters, they get plenty of humidity and rain(depending on where in the south it is, like Florida for example). ...oh and yea, lose the ground kit! LOL :D

Yea id love to take that kit off and the wing.... But we will see. I am going to go look at it over with my dad and see what we can do exactly. If its an easy fix we might take it... if not probably will leave it be and go on our way.
