I was sitting at home one night when one of my friends called me from the local hangout and asked if I wanted to race an STI. I kinda laughed at the matter and I replied something like "Why so I could lose." I decided to go anyway. It sounded like fun. When I showed up at the lot, sure enough there was a black STI. I introduced myself to the guy and he started talking trash. So we drove to the street we were going to race on and we staged up. My best friend flagged and when he dropped his hands and I launched, I blew my Upper Intercooler Pipe right at the throttle body elbow. So naturally he walked away. I drove back to my friends and I tightened the clamp and we staged again. This time when I launched, I took him by at least 3 Cars by the top of 1st and then had a hard steady pull all the way down the road. Some of my friends say I beat him by 10+ cars. I think it was more like 6-7. But the best part about this was when he drove back to pick up his friends, I could have sworn I saw tears going down his face. ;) Morale: You do not need to spend $30,000+ on a car to make it fast.

Way to go good kill :thumb:

What kind of mods are you running to walk an STI like that ?

I have the current setup I have now: Lancer Evo III FMIC, Hard Pipes, 3 in intake, 2g Mas, 255lph fuel pump, 2g throttlebody elbow, K&N filter, Centerforce clutch (I dislike the clutch prefer ACT), MSD Wires, GReddy Type S BOV, 16 psi on 14b, 2 1/2 in to 3 in downpipe, 3 in high flow cat, 3 in catback, Greddy Profec E-01. I had the stock tranny at the time. I now run the GVR-4 Switchable tranny. (I grenaded the other tranny). By the way. Um...he was stock.

6 cars! wow, thats a lot. i have similar mods, except i got a 2g and so i got the silly T25 turbo and i dont have a front mount. think i could still take an STI?

I honestly couldn't say. I don't know enough about modded 2g with the T25. Most of the DSMers around here run with 1g's and I only know of 2 modded 2g's. One car has and EVO III motor swap with extra mods and the other is, well under construction :shhh: But if you were to switch to a T28 or even a TD05 platform (16g or bigger) I'm sure you would have no problem spanking a stock STI. I haven't seen any modded STI's around here yet so stay tuned...:thumb: Remember: just because the STI CAN run a mid to high 13, doesn't mean that the driver you may come across really knows how.

aww, poor guy! I would have felt bad, but who cares, you beat an STI, and yes EVO's are better. Every magizne said so....

Aww man I LOVE it!!:D Granted it is one of the more expensive electronic boost controls. The main reason why I bought it was I did not have an Air/fuel controller and when I read that you can use the Greddy E-01 to control the Greddy E Manage it kinda turned me on (not in that sense). After reading more on the system, I decided that was the setup I will eventually use. The E-01 allows you to control the boost control solenoid to a "T". There are many different parameters you have access to that allow you to control the turbo. It can spool faster you can change the signal so that the boost remains steady all through the powerband. You can even set a limiter so you don't go past a certain psi. There are SO many things it can do. And the E manage? It can set up things like (sorry for mentioning this word on a DSM site) Vtec, nitrous, fuel, prevent your car from dying because you vent to the atmosphere. Too many things too list. ;)

No not yet but a friend of mine with a turbo civic hatch has one and I watched him tune it. I was impressed when he ran a 12.9 in it.

16 psi on 14b

Nice kill but that guy couldn't drive worth shit. STi's are not exactly slow...even stock. It's a low 13 sec car with a good driver.:shhh:

16psi pump gas on a 14B is not exactly putting 6 car lengths on an STi.

With running an unstable 13 psi on pump gas,(peaked at 15 dropped to 13) I ran a [email protected] could not find the timeslip to prove it. I have since installed the Profec E-01 and the home depot edition 3in. intake. With the profec I run 16.7 psi that drops to 15.9 and holds. Thank the lord for the E-01. With those two combinations I had a drastic top end increase. Yes this was all done on some good ol' 92 octane shell gas with the 14b. Also the guy could NOT drive worth a crap. The race actually went for about 2 miles. I hit the "4 ways" at about 130mph. He did start to come back. Granted I am now running Cenex High octane Gas now 96-98 octane at $1.97/gal. , Denso Iridium plugs and Federal Mogul 7.5mm plug wires and I will be going to the track (Pacific Raceways in Kent Washington) on Saturday march 6 and I will post my time slip. I am hoping for low 13's. BTW That 13.7 was before the race with the STi.:dsm:

There was a type error. I forgot the word not. He did NOT start to come back. He leveled out about 6-7 cars behind me.

Back to original topic

The name of the gas station is Cenex. From what the employees tell me is that their high octane gas as listed at 94. When they test it however, more often than not it comes back at 96-98. The one that I go to is in Parkland which is near Spanaway where SR512 meets Pacific Ave. Take the exit and go south bout half mile. There is one in Black Diamond. If you get on I-405 and get to the Maple Valley/ Enumclaw highway (SR169) and go towards Enumclaw. I dont know exactly where you live in Renton, but from 405, it is about 15 miles give or take a couple. There should be one closer, just look them up in the phone book. I have had nothing but satisfaction once I switched to that gas.:thumb:

Nice! There is only one STI down here, and I want to run against her so bad, but she keeps bullshitting me. However she is so quick to race everyone else. I also prefer an EVO over the STI.

I dunno, I ran 12.7@107mph on pump and 17psi right off the highway with nothing more than a 3" TB exhaust, K&N w/ can removed and a boost controller with about 300lbs taken out. Rest of the car was 100% stock, not even port work. There are a lot of cars running well into the 12's on 14b's, some as low as 12.0 without front mounts or even hard pipes. ;)

1st gens are freak nasty cars when it comes to bang for the buck. :D
