Let's see, not to long ago, I was coming home from picking my sister from Chapel Hill Mall, right off I-77, then a 2002 Sentra SE-R started cutting though traffic, I stomp on my automatic DSM and it downshifts. After we finally hit an open area, I pull up next to him, rolling at about 75MPH(damn, I'm already at a disadvantage) he goes and I floor the DSM. He pulls away for about a good 3 car lengths ahead. Looking back down, I'm already at 95 MPH, but he pulled on me like I was parked. God, that was kind of embrassing. I don't know the dude in the SE-R, but I've see him around. he looked pretty stock with just him driving, but I could hear his (sounded like AEM cold air)intake and (ricey sounding)exhaust. I have installed MBC set at 15psi (which spikes back to 12-13psi), K&N filter charger, passanger side splash gaurd removal, silencer removal, 104k, automatic transmission and lastly about an extra 350lbs(sister and her friend). Tell me, think the outcome sounded about right?

He has two advantages , FWD vs AWD from a roll. And your automatic is slowing you down. Try racing him from a dead stop and you might get him for a while until he starts pulling back. The Spec V's have a factory LSD right ?

Correct, they are equiped with a decent LSD. I was owned but I am not down, I bought AWD because I am more concerned about living a quarter mile at a time. When I had my 94 TSI FWD, that thing pulled so hard, it was almost stock and it smoked a GS-R with mods on the highway.

man i love picking on Sentra owners. They get so excited cause they can launch and get a good 2 car lengths but as soon as they in the rear view bye bye im already past them:laugh:

Also i wouldnt be racing in a A/T AWD you have 3 major disadvantages:
1. You have a slushbox
2. Your car out weight his + drivetrain loss
3. 1G A/T came with 13G and 350cc injectors:thumbdown

Sentras have quick 0-60's but aren't to great in 1/4.

I raced my friends 03 SE-R in my dads 2G GSX from a roll at like 45, I downshifted into second and we both floored it at the EXACT same time and I jumped a car lenthg right away. And me being not knowing shift points of this car, the t-25 didn't want to go any more and I shifted to late and he pulled ahead. I could take him now if I tried again but I don't like beating my dads car....both cars were stock, and plus the DSM has 180,000 highway miles from my dad and still running strong!

I dont think of my automatic being a huge disavantage, but I do think it's slowing me down. Manual guys with the same mods can pull mid-high 14's. Auto's on the other hand, have been seen to lay flat 15's to high 14's. I just got my 2.5 dp and just waiting on my 3" catback from RNR. It will be a different story for sure. Heck, I am just going to do what "Import Tuner" did and get 100+HP with apexi dp, hks fuel cut defencer, and fuel pump.:thumb: that would be the day, with that amout of power, i better be 14's, or I just suck as shifting with an automatic:p

We'll the 1G manual tranny guys do have an advantage on you because they have a larger turbo stock. You have a TD04, and They have the TD05H-14B. Your turbo is more comparable to the T25 than the 14b. Swap the 14B in or upgrade to the 16g, and 450s from a stock DSM, and you'll see a real difference. I know two guys with AWD Auto's with bigger turbos and they are hella fast. IMO I do not beleve the tranny is the prob. Manual tranny are faster on the street, but it is proven that the automatic if built right is dominating in the 1/4 mile. Look at the professional's like John Forest and others.

yea, i've been familar with the www.vfaq.com so i'm pretty sure about my specs. Around here, everybody just thinks their car is the fastest and don't have to make friends. I think more dsmers around here hate on me more than they hate ricers. They are ricers themselves sometimes, but I don't care. Its more of a thing about I am glad they are doing what they want. I just don't understand how other turbo dsm's just don't like what I got. Crap talkers with turbo dsm's that are my age, just talk about their dsm is faster. Why can't we just get along..? LOL, even though he's stock, I still think it's wack. I don't wanna overload my auto tranny so I will be happy with a 13 sec time slip. maybe i'll get bit by the turbo bug even more when I get my 2g manifold, 450cc injectors or 550cc injectors, 16g turbo, and fuel pump. Don't worry, that's whats next on my list after I put on my exhaust and DP.

The fastest SER spec-v to date is the 03 and runs the following:
[email protected] STOCK
8.0 0-60

basically they have decent top end better than a awd auto 1g but still you should have beat him up until 65 so dont worry about loosing he had all the advantages and you had all the disadvantages.

0-60 in 8!!! OMG oh god, haha, I though it was like 7.1.....that's what my friends does anyway, and a 15.6 1/4.....

hum...good way to put it, i was hit with all disadvantages and he had all the advantages. 75MPH roll is high, I think i'd have trouble taking out an Honda Civic SI at that high of a roll. that's kind of sad, 15.9 with LSD and 175HP, GS-R's don't even have lsd and can pull #'s such as that. Not to mention they are older technology. Thanks for the replies, I am going to try my luck on a GS-R when I see one on the highway!

Thats what scc reported on them...along with other mags. I wopuldnt mess with a gsr on the higway they have decent top end too they car you have should only race from 0-65 other than that your sol.

ps heres the full spec sheet on the ser spec-v 03:
claimed hp/tq: 175hp/180tq
actual:146whp/154tq
2750 weight
0-30 3.2sec
0-60 8.0sec
1/4 [email protected](some have been know to hit 15.5 but those were flukes)

Pros:"lsd makes it lay down power well, without it it would be a peg legged slob"

cons: header is coupled to the cat which=very bad, the balance shaft froths oil as it spins 12k rpms in the crank case, and something about the cams, 6200 rpm fuel cut(no high revver here), and a knock sensor that goes off if you whisper too loud...hence pulling timing.

All around its a decent car if you mod the following , but the qr25 isnt built enough to rev past the fuel cut.

Racing on the street. :thumbdown .

Racing with others in the car. :thumbdown

I would much prefer to see you at the track herovueboi with your friends than your friends at your funeral. Stay safe man, the DSM community doesn't need to lose another one. :(

I think Spec V's do 0-60 in like 7.1 and 1/4 mile in 15.5, cause I have a mirage and can do 0-60 in 8.0 and 1/4 mile in 16.3 and my friend has a Spec V and he'd STOMP me if we raced...and he's stock...they gotta be like 7.1 0-60...

haha and, and, and, and...I sound like a 2nd grader....

Hey Im just reading the specs on the 03 spec-v ser thats what they are...maybe there are some exceptional drivers. there are people who run mid 14s in dsm's while everyone else says they are 15 sec cars. Just how the world works.
Andrew

ps I dont know what I sound like but Im open for criticisms(good ones LOL)

sorry, i didn't mean to be going that fast with others in the car, that's my first big fault, my first dsms (94 tsi fwd R.I.P.) outcome went bad and i felt so stupid for wrecking with 3 of my cousin's with me, much younger than I, so there are times when i just think back to that cold night and slow down. I haven't been to the track for the longest time but i am sure i'll go 2 norwalk since i'm only like 45 minutes away from it. besides, when i do drive fast on the highway, it's with barely any traffic because it scares me to drive fast though traffic, i get bufferflies in my stomac weaving though traffic...:thumbdown thank's for the heads up though!

Sentra got owned!!!!

I finally got my revenge, well it wasn't the same guy but this guy was another SE-R.

First, got into an open area, he kind of followed me going about 55 in a 50, hit the baberton exit and we lined up, not to disadvantaged this time, only 48-50MPH roll, DOWN-shift to 2nd(automatic) we take off at about the same time with precision. (good 2 miles of open road with just 4 other car's on the slow lane, being it's a 4 lane highway)i take the lead and punch it against the passing lane and he's right behind me. I suddenly shift because i'm at 6700 RPM, 3rd gear, pulls hard ass hell but the SE-R start's to walk up my passanger door. I think for a second, shiat! i'm not even at WOT!!! Boost gauge reading 13psi, speedometer 100MPH in 3rd gear, forget the RPM, OD takes over and i'm going about 120, now at about 5200 RPM, holy shiat, the SE-R is still at my passanger door, finally at about 130MPH, i can see his whole car in my passanger mirror, i slow down with the 1/4 mile we have left til an exit, slow down and give him the :thumb: and :) , he does the same, but he does not exit. we part with respect and i've aveged my first lost to a Sentra with a win over another, i'm ;)

The main reason is the size of the turbo (I thought it was a 13b??) That thing is so small it's a joke. Check out www.fullthrottlespeed.com They are awsome, and it looks like they offer some A/T stuff. If ya want a set of 450s let me know. Good luck!

There is your hook up for 450's...Also most of us up grade our turbos so a 14b in good condition shouldn't be hard to find.

You do 0-60 in more like 9 seconds, and the 1/4 is like 16.8.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ sounds about right for an hella underpowered mirage. you'll never stand a chance all motor against an SE-R, it has nissans 2.5 Dohc VCT

Spec-V's are wierd.. I should know I have one :p

First off they have an overly-sensitive knock sensor.. this usually mistakes normal engine noise for knock.. so if you're on it (and did not relocate the sensor) the KS will throw the car's performance off (inconstant track times, dyno #'s etc.)

Thats most likely why one Mag gets 8.0 0-60 and another can get 7.1

In stock form, the 2.5L has a pre-cat as part of the header.. no good.. booo. If you replace the header you get around 12-15 WHP. Essencially in stock form the car is slow.. modified it isnt all too much faster.. and does not have the potential a DSM would have

Spec-v's have HORRIBLE top end. eww I hate it.

Basically its a motor with a huge stroke that runs out of steam real quick mated to a CR 6 speed that makes it feel faster than it is.

I could go on..

Im suprised they gave a few DSM'ers here a run.

1.5 0-60 is 9.5 and 1/4 mile is 17.1

1.8 0-60 is 8.6 and 1/4 mile is 16.5

I have a 1.8 + mods and do about AROUND 8.0.....and 1/4 mile at like 16.3...
haha, must I again mention it's not a STOCK mirage, it has mods....not a lot, but I don't do 0-60 in 9 seconds...that's crazy slow...my 1.5 did 9.5 and I notice a big difference in this car....

best was 7.9, worst was 8.4.....Mirages are underpowered but when your car weighs 2200 LBS 120 hp isn't extremly under powered...

I'm not trying to argue the spec on the Spec-V, I'm just saying...that's crazy that they do 0-60 that slow because I know my friends does like 7 something...

i was out driving around and found a 22 year old with an SE-R. He gave me a ride in it and I have to say, they are pretty good. Top-ends not that bad I don't think. They have good juice up to about 85-90. I can believe i got owned that one night but now that i've been in one, i have new respect for the SE-R. They are really cool cars, it was stock but can chirp 1st and 2nd, which is pretty damn good to me. I have an auto talon, i don't get chirp's<---just makes it sound so much faster than it really is. i wanna see if i can run an SE-R from a stop. I am curious to see what i really run, since i've seen a huge increase since i've had my talon stock. I am kind of thinking now that i might only be a mid-high 15 sec car. I have time to make it faster, and all I need is the right tools.
