91 tsi awd few problem ......please help

ok so the car has been beeing fixed since i bought it but what ever thats expected ..ive replaced so much trying to figure out this over heating problem ..and i never though of checking the exhaust ..then i do its barely putting out of the exhaust ..so i take it off at the o2 housing .....and it runs great ....except there is a smoke coming out wich is like a whiteish color ...and it smells kinda like oil but it runs fine untill i shut the hood ..i guess that its taking in its own exhaust and killing it self ......and it runs ok now ..before it was so clogged and backed up that it would bearly shit ..i guess that has something to do with the stupid auto ..it had problems starting .......

so i guess the question is here if i gut the cat do you think it should be alot better and what is that smoke ..and keep it in mind the car hasnt driven much .....only a couple miles since i got it ..and before that it sat for a while ........then i got it and did a tranny swap and a head gasket also a new 14b and a tubular manifold ....so let me know

Well, does the smoke smell like burning oil or does it smell like maple syrup??? If it smells like oil it's probably bad valve seals, if it smells like sweet syrup then your head is still leaking. If you dumped coolant into the exhaust because of a bad head gasket then you probably have a junk/clogged convertor.

hmmm well thank you very much ...could tha exhaust reentering my engine cause it to stall .tho

i just cant figure out what else could be making it stall ....when i start it up i run it for a minute with the hood up as soon as i put the hood down the idle goes down to like 800 rpms ...and then will sputter out and die ...but its fine with the hood open ......it has to be the exhaust smoke ...remember im runnign it right out of the o2 housing just to test the clogged cat theory ...and it runs great now ..im gonna try to run it from the j-pipe out and see what happens ..ill et back to you and let ya know...

the idle goes down to like 800 rpms

What do you normally idle at?

i idle between a 1000 and 1300 depending on temp out side

Well, you've got a problem right there since idle is 750.
