91 TSI AWD Clutch problems

Hey I just purchased a 91 Talon, but my problem is everytime I put it into gear with the exception of 1st it pops back out into neutral, My dad (who was a master mechanic for 28 years) and I thinks its the clutch because the pedal pressure is very limited and also when you press the clutch in it makes like a whining noise of some sort. but the place i bought it from thinks its the synchros. Havent torn it apart yet doing that tommorrow, just trying to see if i can figure itout ahead of time . What do you gurus think it could be?

The whining could be the throwout bearing (clutch release bearing). Also, try bleeding the clutch and see what happens. Were you planning on changing the clutch anyways?

Yea I was planning on changing it but not until I have the parts for my motor and was gonna do it all at once but if i have to Ill do it now instead. no big deal, but ill bleed it tomorrow and see what happens.

also Ill be replacing the slave cylinder in the process, but do I need an slave cylinder extension rod as well or will the stock one be ok? I have read that the stock one is not long enough to fully disengage

stock one should be fine. i use stock ones everytime i change one. just make sure to bleed and adjust your clucth properly, as for your gear popping out i would guess it is the synchros that are bad. you should bring the tranny to a shop for them to look in there and see what's wrong with it.

sycho's or gear selctor that travels over the gears and engages then inside the trans could be worn or bad. one or the other. Souds like the tb is bad also. Who knows 100% for sure.

Alright cool that will save me a whole 15 bucks . And like I said Ill be taking it apart tommorrow so i can see what else is wrong and if it is indeed the synchros. And yea ill definitely bleed and adjust the clutch properly

Yea I also notcied that when I go to put it into 3rd or 4th I really cant as if the clutch fork is broken, so im thinking thats part of the problem. Also I am gonna replace the shifter bushings as well, so should I go with the extreme psi bushings or the symbroski shifter kit? I am currently leaning towards the symbroski kit. Its not a real big deal I was gonna replace it anyways just wasnt expecting to do so this soon .
