I recently got rear ended and broke a light and did up the bumper pretty good. I am wondering what all is needed to change the back half to a 94 and would it look good. My friend has a part out car that is a 94 and i was wondering if i could steal his bumper and hi lights and pull it off.? Any input on this would be great. THanks

Jeff

Mod Edit: Elaborated on the title to add Eclipse to Talon conversion, which have many similar problems. Leon

i believe you'll need thelights, center piece and bumpers. There is some wiring involved with the lights, but nothing outrageous.I believe the suppurts ar different but don't quote me on that one.Highpsi's done this mod,he'll know that one.

i think the 1gb talon's rear end is just plain sexy along with a 1ga front end. I'm planning to do this mod too. I would think all you need is the rear bumper and tail lights for the conversion. i'm thinking though that you might need the quarter panels too since the tail lights are different shapes. (not sure if quarter panel is what its called. im talking about the body part at the end of the taillights.

You'll need:

All 3 pieces of the tail lights
rear bumper cover <--- make sure you get the little support brackets that holds the rear side marker
rear inner fender wells <--- your old ones won't line up to the 1gb talon bumper cover (*optional)

The reverse lights wiring is straight forward, just unplug the socket and connect it to the 1gb talon one

You will need to remove your bumper and flip it upside down (it is held on by 4 17mm bolts)

You will need to trim the L bracket on your frame, since the center of the 1gb talon bumper dips for the center tail piece <--- I think you can drill out the spot welds and use a hacksaw to cut the sides

The bracket that holds the side marker will help in holding up the ends of the bumper cover, I'm a little fuzzy on this since it's been a while since I did it, but I remember something where I had a problem getting the side markers to stay screwed onto the bumper cover <--- look at the parts car and compare the brackets to verify

You will need to add another pair of brake lights to your existing tail light wiring <--- there are probably other methods to do this, this is what I did

You will have to get your muffler repositioned <--- it doesn't sit the same way as the old bumper <--- for mine at least since I have a laser

Hope this helps

John

I forgot to add that there might be a black metal support frame that bolts onto the L bracket on the car frame (it is a thin piece of metal under the tail lights, above the bumper cover holding it in place, you will see it when you remove your tail lights.) You will want to trim that too since the center 1gb talon piece dips down. Just use a hacksaw and cut the center off where it may interfere with the center piece.

jwt-1gnt has it right. the 1gb talon rear end looks alot better then the 1ga rears in my opinion. Its not that hard to do and worth the work.
As long as you check out the wiring on the donor car before you start working on your car, you will have a good idea of what needs to be done.

Also, you definitly dont need rear quarter panels as someone said earlier

I love the 1Gb rear. I'm just about done converting it all. JWT pretty much has it covered. Except I totally removed the actual bumper support, never to be reinstalled again. Also my reverse/license plate wiring did not have matching plugs with the 92 style. But it was an easy fix. Just swapped some of the bulb sockets over to the 91 harness and it all works now!

After I started the conversion, I thought about doing one, but realised I was already too far into the conversion to start one up. Oh well. I got all the wiring done last night. All that's left with the conversion is to get the car painted so it all matches!

Guys, I am going to resurrect this thread because it doesn't adequately address wiring. I am doing 92 Eclipse to 92 Talon conversion and lights are not straight forward as most might think!

Eclipse has 4 pins on the main tail light fitting, but it uses just 3 of them:

- Green/White for tail-light
- Black for ground
- Green/Blue for brake AND turn signal (Eclipse uses the same light for those).
- Plus, one more brake only terminal, which is not used on Eclipse, but it is still there (must be a left over from the Talon days).

I haven't yet had a chance to get my hands on a '92-94 Talon, to compare.

Plugging Talon tail lights into an Eclipse gives you proper tail lights AND turn signals, but when you step on the brakes, both turn signals also turn on! Obviously, this is not desirable...

Here is what I think is going on: Mitsu took a brake signal and sent it into the turn signal lead on the rear harness. So my guess is that this must be happening somewhere in the front of the car... There must a relay/flasher, that is unique to Eclipses, which is causing this strange behavior with Talon lights.

Does anyone know where it is?

I found the way to solve half of this problem! I figured out how to get a "clean" turn signal down the rear end wires. You simply cut off a brake light signal to the turn signal flasher, so with just one snip of the wire cutters I now have a "clean" turn signal!

Next problem, Talon tail lights trigger the "burned out light bulb/quick flash" mode :(. This must be due to the fact that Talon uses just one turn signal bulb to Eclipse's two turn signal bulbs. The lower current draw, triggers the flasher to enter the "fast flashing" mode.

Now, I can ether and a resistor, or I am just going to use a Talon flasher, which should have a different calibration for what triggers the "fast flash mode".

I will update you once I try that flasher.

As for center section, 1Gb Talon senter cection plugs right into the 1Gb Eclipse and everything works as it is supposed to.

Found out what the solution is to the wiring from laser/eclipse to talon. There is no need to cut or splice any wire. The solution is to replace the current turn signal (blinker) relay and harness with the talon relay and harness. This is located under the radio in the center console. I recently did a laser to talon conserion and 92nolatist found this using his service manuals.
